Reese Witherspoon took her son Deacon Phillippe as her date to the awards ceremony
“This is my first Golden Globes; really my first awards show, so I’m very excited,” Deacon told Variety during the red carpet.
Reese then further confirmed Big Little Lies Season 3 is on the way (it had previously been confirmed by Nicole Kidman).
“We are working on it. Nic[ole Kidman] and I are working on it a lot,” she said.
Riley Keough said she’d never release an album
The granddaughter of Elvis Presely and Priscilla Presley, Riley Keough was nominated at the 2024 Golden Globes for her performance as the titular character in the musical series Daisy Jones and the Six.
However, when asked if she was going to release an album of her own, she said, “Probably never.” Looks like she won’t be following in her grandpa’s footsteps after all…

Jo Koy’s opening monologue didn’t quite land
A few of the jokes in Golden Globes host Jo Koy’s opening monologue just didn’t land. For instance, he made a joke about Barbie (“Oppenheimer is based on a 721-page, Pulitzer Prize-winning book about the Manhattan Project. And Barbie is based on a plastic doll with big boobies”) and director Greta Gerwig looked less than amused.
Jo also jokingly asked Robert De Niro how he managed to recently father a child in his 80s; while Robert seemed to take it well, the audience noticeably did not laugh.
“I didn’t write all of these,” Jo improvised during the monologue when he noticed people weren’t laughing…
Elizabeth Debicki won for her performance as Princess Diana
Elizabeth Debicki took home the Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television – Television Series thanks to her role in The Crown.
“Thank you for trusting me with this part,” she said in her acceptance speech.
Kevin Costner recited the famous Barbie monologue
Kevin Costner presented a Golden Globes award with America Ferrera; the actress who gave the famous monologue about womanhood in Barbie.
And Kevin recited part of the monologue while the two were presenting after America admitted she was a huge fan of The Bodyguard; we guess that was his way of saying he was a fan of America’s work too?
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reunited
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, who have been friends for decades and wrote the film Good Will Hunting together, reunited once again at the Golden Globes to present the award for Best Director.
Christopher Nolan mentioned the late Heath Ledger in his acceptance speech
Christopher Nolan won Best Director for Oppenheimer at this year’s Golden Globes, and the director mentioned in his acceptance speech that the last time he was onstage at the Golden Globes was when he was accepting the Best Actor award on Heath Ledger’s behalf.
Heath won for his performance as The Joker in Christopher’s 2008 film The Dark Knight. Sadly, Heath passed away shortly after The Dark Knight was released, which is why Christopher accepted it back then.
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling miss out on awards for their Barbie performances
Both Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were nominated for their roles as Barbie and Ken in Barbie. However, they both missed out on awards; Margot lost to Emma Stone and Ryan lost to Robert Downey Jr (see the full list of winners here).
Both were extremely gracious when they lost though. Margot was all smiles as she clapped for Emma, and Ryan looked pretty happy for Robert as he walked up to the stage.
There was an awkward music blunder
When Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig were presenting the award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Musical/Comedy Film, music randomly started playing.
The two shared an awkward look and Will then said, “Not sure what that was,” before continuing to introduce the category.
However, the music began playing again twice more while they were presenting, and it became clear the awkward moment must’ve been planned. During the third time the music played, both Will and Kristen began dancing.
Mark Ruffalo literally jumped for joy
Mark Ruffalo was definitely excited by the fact that his film Poor Things won Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy; he was jumping for joy in the press room.
