Remakes certainly aren’t a new concept; did you know the classic 1991 film Father of the Bride, starring Steve Martin, Diane Keaton and Martin Short, is a remake of the 1950 film of the same name?
But in 2025, it seems that quite a few things are getting a remake or reboot…
What movie is getting remade?
Without further ado, here are all the movies and TV shows getting remade in 2025:

The Bodyguard
Warner Bros. have confirmed that they’re remaking The Bodyguard. The 1992 film – which was nominated for two Oscars – stars Kevin Costner and the late Whitney Houston, and follows a famous R&B singer who hires a former Secret Service agent as her bodyguard.
At this stage, there’s no word on who will star in The Bodyguard remake. However, Warner Bros. have confirmed that Sam Wrench – who directed the concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour – will direct.

Scooby Doo
For the first time ever, the iconic Hanna-Barbera cartoon Sccoby Doo will be remade as a live-action TV series.
Peter Friedlander, vice president of scripted series at Netflix, announced the news in March 2025, and said in a statement:
“Mystery Inc. is back in business! We’re excited to bring Scooby Doo to TV as a live-action series for the first time. The beloved franchise has had an impact on pop culture that is undeniable — it’s rich with universal themes of friendship that generations of fans have long embraced. Together with creative powerhouses Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio, we’re committed to delighting longtime fans and opening up a world of groovy adventures for a new era of meddling kids.”
The upcoming Scooby Doo series will reveal how Mystery Inc. and their beloved Great Dane first came together.
“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets,” the official logline reads.
It’s not yet been announced who will play Shaggy, Daphne, Velma and Fred or when the series will be released; watch this space.

Prison Break
The popular TV show Prison Break – which ran for five seasons between 2005 and 2017, and starred Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell – is getting rebooted in 2025.
This new iteration will not continue the story of the original series but will apparently be set in the same universe, focusing on a new crew of inmates.
Emily Browning, Lukas Gage, and Drake Rodger are set to star in the Prison Break reboot.

Escape (The Piña Colada Song)
We’re unsure if this truly classifies as a ‘remake’, it’s more of an adaptation. But, nevertheless, the popular 1979 song “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” by Rupert Holmes is getting made into a film.
The lyrics of the song tell the story of a man who, feeling bored in his relationship, responds to a personal ad seeking someone who enjoys “piña coladas and getting caught in the rain.” He arranges to meet the mystery woman, only to discover that it’s his own partner who placed the personal ad.
Presumably, this will be the plot of the upcoming film, which will be a romantic comedy produced by Alloy Entertainment.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
According to Variety, the cult classic television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer may get a reboot in 2025.
Furthermore, Sarah Michelle Gellar will likely reprise her role as the titular character.
“Sources say that Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to once again play the iconic title character in the untitled project, although it would focus on a new Slayer and Gellar would appear in a recurring role rather than leading the series,” the outlet reported.

Little House on the Prairie remake
Netflix has greenlit a new Little House on the Prairie series. The original series, based on Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books, ran for nine seasons from 1974 to 1983.
There’s no word yet on a release date for the new Little House on the Prairie series but Jinny Howe, Vice President of drama series for Netflix, teased it would come to the streaming platform soon.
“Little House on the Prairie has captured the hearts and imaginations of so many fans around the world, and we’re excited to share its enduring themes of hope and optimism with a fresh take on this iconic story,” Jinny also said.

Baywatch remake
The show that catapulted Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff to fame is getting the remake treatment. However, at this stage, it’s not been announced who will star in the new Baywatch series. Furthermore, there’s no update on when it’ll hit our screens. Our guess is mid to late 2025.

Bewitched remake
If you’ve been wiggling your nose, hoping for a remake of Bewitched, you’re in luck! Judalina Neira — who has worked on Daisy Jones and The Six, The Boys and The Flash — has signed a deal with Sony to remake the 1960s sitcom that starred Elizabeth Montgomery.
The upcoming Bewitched series is described as “an irreverent hour-long reimagination of the classic TV series.” At this stage, no release date or cast details have been announced but it’s rumoured the Bewitched remake is slated for a 2025 release… Watch this space! And in the meantime, you can watch the 2005 film remake of Bewitched, starring Nicole Kidman, via Apple TV+.
And furthermore, here’s a list of all the films and television shows that were remade in 2024:
