Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip of Sweden’s love story began in 2009, when they happened to be eating at the same restaurant with mutual friends.
Their romantic journey hasn’t been easy, with numerous complications coming from outside the palace walls. However, their love was undeniable.
“I don’t think I knew the magic of love before I met Sofia,” Prince Carl said in 2014 during a media conference. “But ever since I met her, I’ve seen how love can change a person.”

When did Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip get married?
During a 2014 media conference in Sweden, the pair announced their engagement with Sofia gushing over her soon-to-be husband.
“The first thing I noticed about Carl Philip was that he seemed very humble,” she said at the time. “When I got to know him, I saw that he was incredibly natural, very intelligent and very humble.”

The pair married inside the Royal Chapel at the Royal Palace of Stockholm on June 13, 2015. On this day, Sofia Hellqvist officially became the Princess, Duchess of Värmland.
“Today I am the happiest man in the world,” Prince Carl said after the ceremony.

Less than a year after exchanging vows, the royal couple welcomed their first child, Prince Alexander in April 2016.

“I was met with an enormous hate storm, from people who had opinions about [me] as a person, about my relationship,” she said in 2018 on TV4. “I was surprised, and it definitely affected me… It was very tough.”
