Margot Robbie‘s gin, Papa Salt, has just been named one of the best in the world at the prestigious 2024 San Francisco World Spirits competition (SFWSC). The competition is one of the most renowned and respected in the world and judges spirits across 31 different categories.

Papa Salt, which was one of 5000 entries to the prestigious competition, nabbed a Gold medal – which is the second-highest accolade that can be won at the SFWSC. 70 judges and industry experts evaluate the thousands of entries. High-scoring spirits will first receive Gold awards then, those spirits will be re-assessed and those with multiple top scores earn Double Gold – the highest prestige.

“The San Francisco World Spirits Competition is one of the most prestigious taste tests in the world. To earn a gold there is a credit to our entire team, the five years we spent developing Papa Salt, and of course our amazing Australian botanicals. We’re thrilled to be celebrated amongst so many Australian gin producers on the industry’s biggest international stage,” says Charlie Maas, Papa Salt’s CEO and co-founder.

But Papa Salt wasn’t the only Australian spirit to secure a medal at the awards, over 200 other home-grown spirits were also awarded medals. Starward Whisky became the most decorated Australian spirit this year when it took home a whopping 13 perfectly-scored Double Gold Medals. In addition to this, eight of their whiskies were also awarded the prestigious Platinum medal – which means that it has been awarded a Double Gold three consecutive years in a row.
