Speaking on Nova’s, Fitzy, Wippa & Kate, Hollywood megastar Chris Hemsworth reminisced with former co-star Kate Ritchie about their time on Home and Away.
“Back on the Home and Away days when I was a young young fella coming through there…didn’t know anything, so Kate was my guiding light and said, ‘I’ll take care of you mate. Don’t do this. Come this way, I’ll put you in a cab”. She took care of me.”
Chris Hemsworth portrayed Kim Hyde on Home and Away from 2004 to 2007. Kim arrived in Summer Bay as a rebellious teen after his father, Barry Hyde, became headmaster of Summer Bay High.
His portrayal of Kim was one of the early breakout roles in Chris’s career. He won the Most Popular New Male Talent TV WEEK Logie Award in 2005.

Kate Ritchie played Sally Fletcher, one of Home and Away’s most beloved characters. It was a role that she portrayed for 20 years from the series’ debut in 1988 until 2008. Sally was a central figure in Summer Bay. She was a foster child who became a respected teacher and deputy principal. And of course, along the way, she endured countless dramatic arcs, including accidents, relationships, and even being kidnapped.
Despite both being core characters on Home and Away during overlapping years, there was no major storyline between Kim (Chris Hemsworth) and Sally (Kate Ritchie).
This isn’t the first time he’s commended Kate Ritchie about Home and Away. Back in 2013, he also reunited on the radio with Kate. Fitzy and Wippa introduced an “excited caller” referred to as “Kate from Campbelltown.” However, it took a minute for Chris to realise that he was talking with his former castmate.

“I’d have to say Kate Ritchie… not only the most talented, but just the most stunning woman,” he said on the call.
In that interview, he also shared that he didn’t get to do as many storylines with Kate as he would have liked, including a romantic storyline.
He joked, “I kept pushing for it, but I think Kate kept fighting it.” To which Kate responded that she had to “beat you off with a stick”.
