Mel and Luke’s MAFS fairytale comes crashing down

"I don’t feel like Meg Ryan in You’ve Got Mail.”

Mel was expecting a fairytale wedding on Married At First Sight Australia 2026, but immediately shut down when Luke wasn’t her blonde-haired, blue-eyed dream man.

Luke made a big oopsie on their wedding day: forgetting the wedding rings. Leaving Mel, 28, walking down the aisle to an empty altar for 10 minutes.

But their relationship – or lack thereof – has been disastrous ever since. Below, The Weekly discusses Mel and Luke’s journey on Married At First Sight 2026.

No Attraction

The lack of attraction towards each other was clear. While many fans believe it’s mostly Mel shutting out her husband, she has made other claims to Mamamia.

“No one’s really clocking on to the fact that he didn’t really like me either,” Mel said.

“He made a comment at the honeymoon, being like, ‘Well, this is just a friend vibe.’ But no one attacked him for that. It’s obvious when you’re watching… there was no attraction towards each other. It’s not one-sided, it kind of comes from both sides.”

While Luke hasn’t touched on whether or not he was attracted to Mel. He was the only groom not ranked first in the Photo Ranking Challenge, while Luke ranked Mel first.

“If you’re in a relationship, you want to make the other person feel secure. Ranking someone first is such an easy way to do that,” he told Daily Mail.

Midnight Stalker

During the Rapid Revelations task, Mel confessed to “stalking” her ex with her friends by driving “past his house multiple times during the night to make sure he was home.”

“We love a stalk,” Mel smiled.

The confession was anything but funny to Luke, telling his wife, “I’m really not happy with how this whole thing is making me feel.”

Ultimately, he packed his bags to stay with a friend for the night. Mel said his “sulking” behaviour is “giving me the ick.”

A “Ruined” Wedding

After Luke “ruined” the wedding, the facade was broken for Mel, admitting she didn’t feel a spark.

“When I was doing my vows, he was chewing gum, sort of with his mouth open. I could hear it,” Mel told MAFS producers. “It’s one thing after another.”

Tearfully adding, “So far, this doesn’t feel like the fairytale I pictured for myself. I don’t feel like Meg Ryan in You’ve Got Mail.”

They committed to not committing

After a tough start to the Married At First Sight Australia experiment, Mel and Luke decided to exit the experiment during the third commitment ceremony.

“I feel like Mel hasn’t really tried throughout this whole experiment,” Luke confessed. “There’s times where I feel like she’s tried on paper, she’s bought me some gifts. But I don’t want gifts, I don’t care for gifts. I want to spend quality time [with her]… it’s taken a continuous toll on me.”

Unfortunately, Mel didn’t feel like there were any “romantic” sparks between them.
