Eric Bana is heading into the rugged wilderness of Yosemite National Park in the Netflix limited series, Untamed.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new show.
What is Untamed about?
The series opens with two climbers scaling the biggest cliff in Yosemite National Park, El Capitan. The massive granite monolith rises over 3,000 feet, and the show gives a good representation of the height (be wary if you are not a fan of heights and ledges). However, as they scale, a woman falls from the sky and gets tangled in their rope. But what is first believed to be a tragic accident is soon revealed to be something more sinister.
Who stars alongside Eric Bana in Untamed?
Eric Bana stars as Kyle Turner, a special investigator agent in the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (ISB). He has a tragic past, and the rangers aren’t a fan of his perceived superiority and closed-off nature. The investigation into the woman brings up his tragic history and puts him at odds with his past.
Eric is no stranger to playing an investigator. Arguably, his most well-known role is as Federal Police agent Aaron Falk in The Dry and its sequel. Based on the trilogy by Jane Harper, The Dry follows Aaron Falk, who returns to his hometown of Kiewarra upon the death of his childhood best friend.
The Dry is available to stream on Netflix and Stan.
Back on the Untamed castlist, joining Eric Bana’s Kyle Turner on this investigation is Naya Vasquez (portrayed by Lily Santiago). She’s a rookie park ranger and former police officer in Los Angeles who has recently moved to Yosemite with her son. Naya is also hiding some secrets about her past.
Also starring is Sam Neill as Paul Souter. Paul is the chief park ranger in Yosemite and has been for decades. He is one of Kyle’s few close friends and confidants who support and guide him through the series.
Rosemarie DeWitt (La La Land, The Staircase) portrays Kyle’s ex-wife, who has since remarried but maintains a strong connection to Kyle and Yosemite thanks to a horrific event in their shared history.
Was Untamed filmed in Yosemite?
Despite it being the location of the story, the series was filmed in British Columbia, Canada, at various locations, including Chip Kerr Park.
“I’d spent time in your beautiful part of the world in winters, but not in summer,” Eric said in an interview with LA Times. “So to get a chance to set the show there cinematically, and to get the scope and everything, was just incredible. It was a hugely important element in the show.”
Eric Bana was one of the producers of Untamed, and its location is hugely important to the series’ storyline: “We felt like the character of Yosemite National Park, and the role that nature plays, is one of the characters in the show. So we were thrilled to film there.”
Will there be a second season of Untamed?
Currently, there is no news about Untamed getting a sequel. It is listed as a limited series; furthermore, there are production plans for a sequel.
However, should the series prove to be popular, there could be demand for a return for a second season.
