20th Century Studios also released a teaser trailer (see above) featuring iconic lines from the first movie. Plus, it had a visual nod to the original poster — a red stiletto with a devilish twist. Oh, and did we mention there’s an Aussie actor joining the cast? Read on for everyting we know so far…

What was the plot of the first The Devil Wears Prada movie?

The Devil Wears Prada (2006) is a beloved fashion comedy-drama based on the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger. The original novel was loosely inspired by Lauren Weisberger’s real-life experience working for Anna Wintour at Vogue. The film became a cultural phenomenon thanks to its iconic fashion, quotable lines, and powerhouse performances, particularly from Meryl Streep. She earned an Oscar nomination and won a Golden Globe for her role as Miranda Priestly.

The plot follows Andy Sachs (played by Anne Hathaway), an aspiring journalist fresh out of college who lands a job as the junior assistant to Miranda Priestly (cooly played to perfection by Meryl Streep), the fearsome editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, a fictional stand-in for Vogue.

Despite having no interest in fashion, Andy navigates Miranda’s outrageous demands and gradually transforms from frumpy outsider to polished insider, risking her values, relationships, and identity in the process. The story ultimately explores ambition, sacrifice, and the cost of “making it” in a cutthroat industry.

Who is in the cast of The Devil Wears Prada sequel?

Fans will be delighted to know that many of the original cast members are returning. Meryl Streep will be back as the formidable Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway returns as Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs, Emily Blunt will again portray Emily Charlton, and Stanley Tucci is returning as Nigel.

Adrian Grenier, who played Andy’s boyfriend Nate in the first film, is not returning (so it looks like their *spoiler alert* break-up in the first film stuck). However, Andy’s best friend Lily (played by Tracie Thoms) is set to return. As is the chairman of Runway’s parent company, Tibor Feldman.

Want to know who will be romancing Andy on screen? It’s none other than Colin From Accounts star Patrick Brammall! The Aussie actor, 47, was announced by Entertainment Weekly in late July 2025.

Furthermore, joining them in the sequel is British actor and director Kenneth Branagh. He will portray Miranda’s husband, whom we never really saw in the first film.

Anne Hathaway gave a first look at her character, Andy Sachs, in the sequel on her Instagram page. She captioned the image simply with “Andy Sachs 2025 #dwp2”.

What’s the plot of the sequel?

The sequel delves into the evolving landscape of the fashion and publishing industries. Miranda Priestly faces challenges amid the decline of traditional print media. In response, she’s forced to reconnect with her former assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), who is now a powerful executive at a luxury brand, with control over its advertising spend, which could be a lifeline for Runway.

There’s no word on where Andy is in this plot. At the end of the first film, she was conducting an interview for a position at The New York Mirror, a fictional newspaper. During the interview, the editor tells her that Miranda Priestly herself called ahead to give Andy a glowing recommendation, saying she would be a “fool not to hire her.” Perhaps Andy will be reporting on the changes in print media?

When will The Devil Wears Prada sequel come to theatres?

Mark your calendars: The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to hit theatres on May 1, 2026. The release date intriguingly aligns with the annual Met Gala, a significant event in the fashion world. And also, synonymous with Anna Wintour, the chair of the Met and inspiration for Miranda Priestly.
