In January, Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi welcomed their second child together, a daughter named Athena!
At the time, the palace announced that while Athena came prematurely, both she and Beatrice were okay.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, January 22, at 12:57pm (GMT), at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London,” the palace’s statement read.
“The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces. Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news,” it continued.
Shortly after the palace shared this happy news, Edoardo took to Instagram and wrote a beautiful tribute of his own to Athena.
“Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi. We welcomed Baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect. We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her,” Edoardo’s caption read.
“Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena. A massive thank you from my wife and I goes out to all the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their exceptional care and support during this incredibly special time.”
Now Beatrice has written an op-ed for British Vogue, detailing her pregnancy journey as well as her newfound dedication to shining a light on those working tirelessly to improve female health.
“In many ways, for the longest time, women’s health has been left off the agenda. You can try and plan as much as possible with pregnancy, but sometimes your body – or your baby – has other ideas, which in some cases can lead to a preterm birth,” Beatrice mused.
“I’m extremely pleased to let you know Athena is now doing really well, I have a few more answers as to what happened, but still no precise explanation. Looking back over those months of sheer worry, I am filled with a sense of determination that more can be done to help others find answers to those questions around the complications that can lead to preterm birth – questions that defined my days (and nights) during pregnancy,” she continued.
The palace first confirmed Beatrice was pregnant in October 2024. However, at the time, the palace said the baby — which turned out to be Athena — was due in spring (March, April and May in England).
In addition to Athena, Beatrice and Edoardo are the proud parents of Christopher ‘Wolfie’ Woolf Mapelli Mozzi and Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi; Edoardo shares Wolfie with his ex Dara Huang but Beatrice is a loving stepmother!
