The engagement happened while the two were “island-hopping” in Greece. Ariarne posted a series of images of their engagement on a beach in Greece, simply captioned “you + me forever 🤍 07.09.26.”

Mac Powell is a Melbourne-based investment analyst who met Ariarne on a blind date shortly after her successful run at the Paris 2024 Olympics. They went public with their relationship in early 2025, appearing together at the Australian Open in January 2025. Less than a year later, Ariarne shared that she moved to Melbourne from Queensland to live with Mac just two weeks after her retirement announcement.

“Mac and I are living together,” she told the Daily Telegraph. “It was hard to leave Queensland. But I do have family in Melbourne and a lot of friends here who have moved from Tasmania.”

In her press conference announcing her retirement in October 2025, Ariarne said she was looking forward to “all normal things that an athlete that’s gunning for Olympic gold doesn’t get to do.”

“I lived a different life [as an athlete]” she told the media. “[In] my early 20s, I made a lot of decisions to put my personal life on the back burner.”

“I believe everything happens for a reason,” she continued. “And I make this decision very, very happy in my personal life. I think Mac came along at the perfect time.”

Following her retirement, Ariarne has broadened her experience to sports reportage for Channel 7 and the Commonwealth Games. She also faced one of her greatest fears, sharks, in the aptly named Nine show, SHARK! alongside Lynne McGranger. And it turns out Mac was the one who encouraged Ariarne to take up the challenge.

“It was my partner, Mac, who said to me, ‘I know what’s going to happen. This show is going to air, and you’re going to regret not having the opportunity to confront sharks,” Ariarne told The Weekly.

As they’ve just become engaged, there’s no word on what the wedding plans may be. Congratulations to the happy couple!
