During the live grand finale event for the 2026 season of Survivor – where Caleb was announced the winner – first-time host David Genat revealed a huge change was coming.

We delve into Australian Survivor’s filming locations below.

Where is Australian Survivor 2027 being filmed?

Hold onto your torches, because Australian Survivor will be filmed in Malaysia for the 2027 season.

David confirmed the news during a live event held in Sydney, also mentioning the season would feature a world-first theme never before seen. Fans are yet to find out what this unique theme is.

Why is Australian Survivor 2027 filming in Malaysia?

Channel 10 hasn’t revealed why it is moving the cast and crew to Malaysia.

However, the beautiful country isn’t completely new to franchise. In 2000, the American iteration filmed its very first season in Borneo. Interestingly enough, Borneo is the third-largest island in the world and is shared by three countries: Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei.

Where has Australian Survivor been filmed previously?

While it’s predominately known for filming in Samoa, this isn’t the first time Australian Survivor has moved shores.

The very first season was filmed in South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula. For season two, they moved to Efate in Vanuatu, before finally moving to Samoa for season three and four.

Season five and six travelled to Suvasavu, Fiji. But the COVID-19 pandemic brought filming back to home turf for two seasons, in Queensland’s Cloncurry and Charters Towers.

“It’s a harsher environment – the temperatures are just so extreme,” former host Jonathan LaPaglia revealed to TV WEEK in 2021.

“When we first got there, the temperature during the day was close to 40 degrees. An hour out in that just melts your brain — you can’t think anymore, you’re nauseous, and it’s really tough.”

Afterwards, the crew remained firmly in Samoa. Returning to the beautiful Pacific Island was like “putting on your favourite pair of shoes,” according to Jonathan.

However, there are some complications regarding Samoan weather.

“The weather is the issue, it really is extreme. Blistering hot and humid most days it can rain a lot and become cold at night, which is no fun when you’re camping on a beach with only a banana leaf for protection,” Jonathan previously told Yahoo Lifestyle

“Over time this becomes very exhausting and, combined with hunger, can greatly impact their judgement when it comes to gameplay.”
