Céline Dion documentary detailing her illness in the works

"I decided I wanted to document this part of my life, to try to raise awareness of this little-known condition."

One of the most iconic singers of all time, Céline Dion, is getting the documentary treatment.

Known for her award-winning smash hits like My Heart Will Go On and It’s All Coming Back to Me Now, the upcoming documentary – titled I Am: Céline Dion – will explore her resoluteness to perform once more despite her Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) diagnosis.

In 2021, Céline was forced to cancel her anticipated Las Vegas residency due to health concerns.

Then, in December 2022, Céline announced she’d been diagnosed with SPS and had to make the tough decision to cancel her Courage World Tour too.

But the five-time Grammy Award winner is persevering, turning her attention to healing while still remaining dedicated to her craft; for instance, she appeared in the 2023 film Love Again and released five new songs on the accompanying soundtrack.

I Am: Céline Dion will cover this intimate journey Céline’s been on – trying to continue her career amidst illness – as well as shed light on the rare SPS condition.

“This last couple of years has been such a challenge for me, the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me,” said Céline Dion herself of the new documentary.

“As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realised how much I have missed it, of being able to see my fans. During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life, to try to raise awareness of this little-known condition; to help others who share this diagnosis.”

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Irene Taylor is set to direct I Am: Céline Dion and Amazon MGM Studios have acquired the rights.

“Céline Dion is a global megastar with a career defined not only by her extraordinary work ethic and passion, but by her dedication to her fans,” said head of Amazon MGM Studios, Jennifer Salke.

“This documentary is a raw, intimate portrayal of a pivotal time in her personal life and career, pulling back the curtain on her journey as she overcomes an unthinkable diagnosis. It’s an honour to be trusted with her story, and we can’t wait to share it with Prime Video audiences around the world.”

I Am: Céline Dion will be available to watch on Prime Video from June 25 in Australia.
