This year’s Married at First Sight (MAFS) sure is shaping up to be dramatic. A case in point is the new couple, Jacqui and Ryan.
Just like their fellow MAFS participants Katie and Tim, and Awhina and Adrian, there were a few awkward moments during the wedding day.
For starters, Ryan didn’t seem to impress Jacqui.
“He hadn’t shaved, which is a big turn-off,” she told MAFS producers.
And even though she smiled during Ryan’s vows, Jacqui was ultimately disappointed.
“When I actually think about it, his vows were pre-written. I don’t know whether he was thinking about me or some other girl in his mind. He didn’t pay me many compliments that seemed real in the moment… It felt rehearsed, if I’m being honest.”
Then, after having to take Ryan’s hand following the ceremony, she was “not happy.”

“I wanted a man who [would] take the lead,” she explained.
Jacqui became further annoyed during the photo shoot when, after shivering multiple times, Ryan didn’t offer her his jacket.
“I had to tell Ryan a few times. I’m sorry… But I don’t want to explain to anyone that that’s what they should do. I want them to want it themselves. I can’t make someone want to be a man. You know, either he is a man or he’s not,” she said to producers. After which she broke down in tears.
“There are just so many s**t men out there and I’m so sick of being single and independent… I don’t want to be the one in the lead and it’s hurtful when I have to do it,” Jacqui said between sobs.
What made all of this worse was Ryan’s obliviousness.
“There’s a synchronicity there,” Ryan told producers.
“I’m feeling happy… She got freezing cold, so I gave her my jacket. She thinks I’m really impressive,” he continued.
“It’s very shared chemistry.” Uh-oh.
During the reception, Ryan turned Jacqui off even more. Furthermore, she was especially perturbed when Ryan said he owned a Kelpie x Staffy.
“I didn’t really like Ryan’s choice of dog. Kind of a concern… The more I get to know Ryan, the less we seem to have in common,” Jacqui confessed.
So, are Jacqui and Ryan still together?
Thankfully, Ryan turned it all around during his wedding speech.
He opened up about being bullied in school. Surprisingly, this, for the first time, gave Jacqui “hope” that she and him could have a relationship.
“The more I get to know him, the more I’m starting to like him,” she said — yes, a complete 180 from what she said earlier.
Of course, Ryan ended up dropping Jacqui during their first dance when he dipped her.

And he really fell to pieces about it.
In fact, he demanded that it be cut from the episode.
“I dropped my wife… I don’t wanna be that guy,” he told a producer.
“[It’s about] preserving that woman’s dignity. I don’t feel that she needs to be ridiculed like that… It’s more about her than anything.”
Weirdly, Jacqui found the whole thing funny — it looks like Jacqui and Ryan can’t be on the same page about anything…
