Months after Married At First Sight Australia’s (MAFS) Rhi Disljenkovic confirmed her split from Jeff Gobbels, she has revealed why their relationship broke apart.
After finding love in the 2025 season, Rhi felt “lucky” to have walked away with the love story she dreamed of. That is until talks of their future never came.
“I would just pinch myself because I thought to myself, I just can’t believe I got this,” Rhi confided to Britt Hockley and Laura Byrne’s podcast, Life Uncut. “But as time went on I would still receive messages about how lucky we are, and I started not to feel lucky. I started to feel like… I don’t know if fraud is the right word, but fake.
“I wanted to be someone’s wife. I wanted to be a mum, I wanted my life to progress. And I found myself having the same conversations on repeat about the future. Getting married, having children, planning holidays. Just planning anything together, really.
“I like having a plan, but also knowing that my partner has the exact same plan as well. And I found that I was the one bringing up the conversations on the future quite a lot.”
Their relationship becoming stagnant was one of the few things that triggered their breakup. Rhi felt his actions and words were “so different,” but there were also “rumours of infidelity.”
“Not that I ever found out concrete that [the infidelity rumours] were true. But I was always faithful in our relationship and it was really hard to get past those rumours,” she shared.
The exes made separate announcements on Instagram confirming the news in June 2026.
“With a heavy heart, I want to share that Jeff and I have decided to part ways. This has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” Rhi shared on Instagram.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the love we shared and all of the memories we created,” she continued. “Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout our relationship and followed along on our journey. Your kindness means more than you know and I appreciate your respect and understanding as we move forward.”
Jeff shared his own statement, writing: “After a lot of thought, unfortunately, my relationship has ended. This has been an incredibly difficult time and I’m trying to navigate this as best as I can.
“I’m grateful for the memories and genuine love we shared over the years. Thank you for supporting our relationship, being part of our journey and respecting my privacy during this time.”
For more than two years, the pair have shared the intimate moments of their relationship. From their first date outside of the experiment to holidays together, their social media followers saw it all.
So, when they stopped posting each other, fans immediately suspected they’d parted ways. Additionally, Rhi posted a cryptic message to Instagram which read: “Choosing relationships that feel calm and safe. Not confusing inconsistency or mixed signals for love.”
“Learning to enjoy my own company. Not needing constant noise, plans or validation to feel okay,” another one read.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Rhi and Jeff have broken up. They actually dated before being matched in the MAFS experiment.
“It fizzled, but we remained friends… We’ve even gotten coffee together [since splitting up],” Rhi told MAFS producers on the day of her and Jeff’s wedding.
