In a dream world, Margot Robbie would take on the life of actress and singer Kylie Minogue in a biopic. While the Barbie actress couldn’t agree to Kylie’s dream, she has paid a special tribute to the pop star.
Margot re-created Kylie’s Come Into My World 2002 music video in a new Chanel advertisement, released in March. Like the original Y2K video, there were multiple versions of Margot navigating the street in Paris.
“I remember watching it as a kid and thinking it was so cool and clever – the in-camera trickery he’s so famous for,” Margot told Vogue.
Kylie also made a very subtle appearance, wearing a pink-shirt very similar to her original outfit in the music video.
This Chanel collaboration comes just months after Margot polietly, and informally, declined playing Kylie in a potential biopic. The Australian actress was in the midst of promoting, A Big Beautiful Journey with Colin Farrell when she learned about Kylie suggesting Margot to bring her career and life to the screen.
“Margot Robbie — in my dreams,” Kylie told E! News in 2023. “She’d have the Australian accent down, that’s for sure.”
Naturally, Margot was starstruck when Scott Mills revealed the news on his breakfast radio program.
“You know, Margot, Kylie has said a few times that she would love you to play her in a movie,” he admitted.
“She did not,” Margot responded. “Why has no one ever told me this before? That is wild information.”
While Margot felt “beyond honoured” that Kylie would ever consider her, she revealed she couldn’t take on the gig for one reason.
“Of course I could not do it, I can’t sing,” she pointed out. “I can’t sing like Kylie… I don’t like it when people can’t actually sing and do a singing movie, you know?”
But is there a role that Margot Robbie couldn’t nail?
Chanel advert aside, Margot and Kylie haven’t crossed paths on screen, but they did both appear in the beloved Australian soap Neighbours.
And Margot has been a long time fan of the Can’t Get You Out Of My Head singer, admitting the Kylie Fever Tour was the first concert she’d ever been to.
They have also bonded over cocktails! Years later when Margot was living in the US, Kylie reached out wanting to meet.
“She sat down, the coolest, warmest, most divine creature you’ve ever met,” she said on the radio program. “She was just like, ‘Oh I just, you know, thought you’re an Aussie and I’m an Aussie and we’ve never met. We should probably hang out’.”
“We just got drunk together, it was just the best … She just wanted to hang.”
