The Kennedy family is mourning the loss of Tatiana Celia Kennedy Schlossberg, the granddaughter of Jackie Kennedy Onassis (Jackie O) and President John F. Kennedy (JFK), who has died at the age of 35 after a battle with cancer.
In a statement posted by the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, her family said: “Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts.” The statement was attributed to “George, Edwin and Josephine Moran, Ed, Caroline, Jack, Rose and Rory”.
Tatiana is the daughter of former United States ambassador to Australia Caroline Kennedy and designer Edwin Schlossberg. She was an acclaimed environmental and climate journalist who wrote for major outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Vanity Fair and The Atlantic.

Tatiana’s work on climate and sustainability — including her 2019 book Inconspicuous Consumption, which examined the hidden environmental impacts of everyday life — earned her respect across journalism and environmental communities.
In November 2025, Tatiana shared a deeply personal essay in The New Yorker, revealing she had been diagnosed in May 2024 with a rare form of acute myeloid leukaemia not long after the birth of her second child. Her writing touched millions as she described the reality of her illness and reflected on life, family and the fragility of time.
Tatiana’s passing brings fresh sorrow to the Kennedy legacy — a family that has famously known both public triumph and private tragedy.
Her grandmother, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, is the January 2026 cover star of The Australian Women’s Weekly as our editor, Sophie Tedmansoon wrote in her editor’s letter in the lissue, “Jackie Kennedy, an icon of style, strength and quiet determination, is having a moment again as her family is back in the zeitgeist thanks to a new wave of TV shows shining fresh light on her legacy.”

Additionally, United States President Donald Trump and his Secretary of Health and Human Services, RFK Jr is also shining new light on the family’s legacy. RFK Jr is heading up the ‘Make America Healthy Again’ initiative. However, his vaccine scepticism has drawn intense criticism from those who work in medicine and also his own family, including Tatiana.
In her New Yorker piece, Tatiana spoke about the devastation being wreaked on the US health system by her uncle. She was heartbroken not just by his anti-vaccine stance, but also by the multi-billion-dollar funding cuts to medical research he has made.
Tatiana is survived by her husband, Dr George Moran, and their two young children, as well as her parents and siblings, including Rose and Jack Schlossberg.
