Standing in front of her peers, Rose Byrne shouted out her ‘husband’, Bobby Cannavale while accepting her Golden Globe award, but many might be surprised to learn that the pair aren’t legally married.
While accepting her award for her stellar performance in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Rose thanked her date for the night who surprisingly was not Bobby, but her brother George.

“I want to thank my husband, Bobby, who couldn’t be here because we’re getting a bearded dragon and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey. So, thank you. Thank you, baby,” she said.
Like his wife, Bobby has worked on a number of well-known films including Ant-Man, The Station Agent, Parker and Blue Jasmine.
Rose and Bobby first met back in 2012 through mutual friends. Rose’s Damages co-star Glenn Close recalled their instant connection in a 2019 Vanity Fair interview.
“The chemistry between them, it’s just so remarkable,” she said. “They’re both kind of universally loved.”

Their romantic relationship became professional for the first time in 2014 with the movie, Adult Beginners. Since then, they’ve also worked on Annie, Spy, Martha The Monster, Seriously Red and Ezra.
Rose once told People that acting was a “very intense thing you can experience together. It’s not for everybody, but I think he’s such a great actor.”
After four years together, Rose and Bobby welcomed their first son, Rocco. Their second son, Rafa was born in 2017.
Despite working together, welcoming two children, and more than a decade of being together, Rose and Bobby haven’t rushed down the aisle. They’ve previously shared their intention to tie the knot, but unfortunately just haven’t found the time.

But legalities won’t stop them from calling each other husband and wife.
“I hate all the other words! It’s just easier to say ‘husband and wife,’” Bobby previously told Vulture. “’Boyfriend and girlfriend’ feels so young. ‘Partner’ feels so sterile.”
“What else could we say?,” he asked Rose, jokingly answering, “My lover!”
