After last year’s less-than-stellar reception to Jo Koy’s hosting stint, all eyes were on Glaser to bring the charm, wit, and humour that the Globes are known for. And she delivered. Known for her sharp tongue and fearless comedy on celebrity roasts, Glaser expertly balanced playful jabs with genuine admiration for the stars in the room.

The Beverly Hilton was abuzz with laughter as Glaser’s jokes landed effortlessly. She kicked things off with a quip about Nicole Kidman’s seemingly endless career accolades: “Thank you so much for all of your hard work. And thank you to Keith Urban for playing guitar around the house so much that she wants to leave and make 18 movies a year.”

Timothée Chalamet wasn’t spared either, with Glaser playfully poking fun at his signature style: “Can I just say you have the most gorgeous eyelashes on your upper lip?” Glaser asked. “I think this is just such a good look.”

Zendaya, fresh off her acclaimed role in Dune: Part Two, earned a hilarious nod as well: “Zendaya, you were incredible in Dune. Oh my God, I woke up for all your scenes! You were so good.”

Glaser also took aim at Hollywood’s obsession with celebrity tequila brands. “Well, before we start handing out awards, I do want to remind you, if you do lose tonight, please just keep in mind that the point of making art is not to win an award. The point of making art is the start of tequila brand so popular that you never have to make art again.”

While the monologue was packed with sharp one-liners, Glaser also demonstrated a genuine warmth towards her audience. Her comedy was inclusive, her delivery confident, and her timing impeccable. It was clear she wanted everyone to have a good time, and she succeeded.

The Golden Globes have always been a night for stars to let their hair down, and Glaser reminded everyone why a strong host is crucial to setting the tone. Her opening set was biting without being cruel, and cheeky without crossing the line.

The highest praise came from her fellow comedian Jon Stewart, “Nikki Glaser is very very good at this.”

Whether it was her playful digs at Hollywood royalty, her self-deprecating humour, or her evident respect for the art of cinema and television, Nikki Glaser delivered a monologue that will be remembered for all the right reasons.
