What is The Piano

In The Piano, everyday Australians are invited to sit at and play pianos placed in public spaces – from shopping centres to train stations.

What the performers don’t know is that they’re being secretly watched by two musical greats: legendary jazz musician Harry Connick Jr. and acclaimed Australian concert pianist Andrea Lam.

Each week, Harry and Andrea choose one standout performer from the shadows.

That chosen pianist then receives one-on-one mentorship and the chance to perform on a professional stage, culminating in a grand finale at Sydney’s prestigious City Recital Hall.

The musical range is as diverse as the players themselves; expect everything from Bach and Beethoven to Taylor Swift and INXS.

But this isn’t just about technical skill.

The Piano also highlights how music has the power to heal; the performers – who are all just everyday Aussies – share deeply personal stories about their favourite instrument and how it has shaped their lives.
