After many years residing in the US, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle intend to relocate to the UK this month.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to relocate to a private, non-royal residence outside of London with their two children Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, according to the BBC.
When the British media initially broke the news, a spokesperson for the pair had no immediate comment. A source close to the Sussexes has since confirmed the information, the ABC reported.
The sudden news follows Prince Harry and Meghan’s visit to the UK in July, promoting the 2027 Invictus Games. This was their first visit to the UK since 2022, when they attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
In tow were Archie and Lilibet, who were visiting the UK for the first time. Buckingham Palace described it as a “private family occasion.” Both children are expected to start a British school in September.
This was a moment that could have been an olive branch between Prince Harry and his family, but was rather shrouded in controversy. The Duke faced many setbacks with police protection, which in turn impacted the family’s itinerary.
Harry lost his right to taxpayer-funded security after exiting the royal family. The 44-year-old has bidded to restore his and his family’s protection for roughly two years, claiming it was not safe to return to the UK without such measures.
Speculation over Prince Harry’s relationship with King Charles went awry when sources claimed the Duke would be residing at Buckingham Palace in London during the July visit. Such reports were swiftly denied by the palace, claiming Prince Harry did not accept the invitation to reside at Buckingham in time.
However, ABC reports King Charles was made aware of the move on Sunday (AEST), and welcomed it. There have been no reports regarding Prince William and Princess Catherine’s response as of writing.
Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties in 2020. Shortly after, they to the US with Archie, who was roughly 10 months old at the time.
There are no public plans for the Sussexes to resume their senior working royal duties.
