Despite stepping away from the royal family in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle still regularly make the news and headlines around the world.

That’s because the couple have pursued various other endeavours that have kept them in the public eye.

For instance, Meghan hosted a podcast in 2022 and Harry released a memoir in 2023. Not to mention, the couple are heavily involved with their organisation, The Archewell Foundation, and both still regularly attend various charity events.

What’s happening with Harry and Meghan?

May 12, 2024

On their final day in Nigeria, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended the State Governor House in Lagos.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor addressed the couple in a speech as he focussed on Nigerias new involvement in the Invictus Games and the important work the royal couple are doing in the space of mental health.

“We are happy for what they are doing for military personnel and mental health issues, and the people who require the support, both in the military and private sectors, can seek it,” he said.

The Governor’s wife Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu also presented the Duchess of Sussex with a green shawl she wore proudly during the event.

That afternoon, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a charity polo match at the rather prestigious Ikoyi Polo Club, for the charity Nigeria Unconquered.

The event consisted of a parade of children waving the Nigerian flag, along with the sweet element of the teams being named, Duke and Duchess in honour of the couple.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent the morning watching an exhibition sitting volleyball match at a local charity for wounded servicemen called Nigeria Unconquered. After the couple watched a few games, Prince Harry was invited to join in on the sport.

Last year Nigeria became the first African Nation to take part in the Invictus Games, and Nigeria Unconquered will be selecting the team Nigeria will put forward for the 2025 games.

Later that evening Prince Harry and Meghan attended the Nigerian Defence Headquarters. The pair observed a Sit Out and enjoyed cultural performances and official speeches.

The pair were presented with hand-woven garments, while Meghan’s newly discovered Nigerian heritage was proudly recognised among those in the room.

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex landed in Abuja, Nigeria to champion the Invictus Games. It is their first time visiting the African nation and while they are there they will meet with soldiers and their families, and watch local sports matches.

Prince Harry has officially landed in the UK and began his visit at the Honourable Artillery Company for the Invictus Games Foundation (IGF) Conversation, Realising a Global Community.

The Duke of Sussex, who is Patron of the IGF, joined the likes of Louise Minchin, Prince Harry, Sir Keith Mills GBE DL and Ken Fisher FH on stage for the discussion.

The event marked the 10th anniversary of the first Invictus Games in London in 2014.

It was confirmed on April 29, that Prince Harry will visit the UK in May. The Duke of Sussex will attend a Thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on May 8 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

Harry founded the Invictus Games – a multi-national sporting event for wounded, injured and ill Servicemen and women – in 2014.

This upcoming visit will mark the first time Harry’s been to the UK since his sister-in-law Princess Catherine publicly announced she’d been diagnosed with cancer.

At this stage, it’s not known whether Harry will visit Catherine, Prince William and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Abigail Spencer, who starred in Suits with Meghan, offered fans a glimpse at the garden located within Harry and Meghan’s Montecito property on April 22. Taking to Instagram, Abigail posted a few pictures of herself lying in the grass (while holding a jar of American Riviera Orchard jam and petting Mamma Mia, one of Harry and Meghan’s dogs) and in the background you can see the Sussex’s neatly trimmed hedges and plush trees.

She captioned her post with, “Thank you for the delicious basket! I absolutely love this jam so not sure I’m sharing with anyone. Thank you M!”

Earlier this year, Meghan launched a new lifestyle brand – American Riviera Orchard. But on April 17, the first product was released.

50 jars of strawberry jam were sent out to a few of Meghan’s friends as well as some fans and influencers. And now, those wanting to shop Meghan’s lifestyle brand can join an online waiting list for products.

April 15, 2024

Harry participated in the Royal Salute Polo Challenge benefitting his charity Sentebale on April 15. Meghan was also there to cheer her husband on.

The annual Polo Cup has been running since 2010, and to date has raised over £11.4 million (roughly AU$22 million) to support Sentebale’s work with children and young people affected by poverty, inequality and HIV/AIDS in southern Africa.

In the evening, after the match, Harry and Meghan attended a sit down dinner and panel discussion hosted by Sentebale and Lebec.

Harry joined the panel, titled Potential is Waiting, and he and the other panel members discussed, according to a press release, how “capital can be creatively dispersed to help youth thrive and address critical global challenges — from Miami to Latin America, to Africa, which has the youngest and fastest growing population in the world.”

On April 11, Deadline first reported that it had been confirmed that Harry and Meghan would launch two new television shows on Netflix.

The first will be a series hosted by Meghan and in it she will “celebrate the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship”.

The second series will follow the world of professional polo. Neither show has announced a release date as of yet as both are only in the early stages of production.
