How to use it
The Holme Beauty Base Primer is great because it’s truly uncomplicated. You can choose to use it as a true primer and wear foundation over the top of it, or to just wear it on its own. As for applying the primer, it’s thin enough to malleably be worked into the skin with your hands. Alternatively, you can use the specially designed complexion brush which has splayed bristles that apply the primer evenly across the skin without absorbing too much product.
Results from our test
Since landing in my makeup bag over six months ago, I’ve put the Holme Beauty Base Primer through rigorous testing. From days under the hot Australian sun to long nights out, cold Winter days and traversing across the globe, this primer has been through it all. After all of this, it’s safe to say that this is genuinely the best product in my makeup bag. I’ve tried and tested dozens of tinted moisturisers, foundations, primers, BB creams and CC creams in my time as a beauty writer, and the Holme Beauty Base Primer is the product that I keep coming back to.
Not only is it ridiculously easy to put on in a hurry, but even when you have the time, wearing this alone or with foundation gives the skin a luminous pop that I have never been able to replicate with any other products. As well as looking great, the primer just feels great too. I have extremely sensitive skin that is prone to break outs but this primer is loaded with so many skin-friendly ingredients that it feels like an extension of my skincare regime.
Though the primer fairs well under most weather conditions, I will say that it lasted longer in cooler weather than on hotter days. I found that if I really sweated, the primer tended to ‘move around’ on my skin. However, when I combined with Holme Beauty’s Empowder Duette setting powder, it stayed flawless despite the heat. My one real wish is that the primer contained SPF so that I could comfortably wear this out and about during Summer, however that’s not to say you can’t layer your own sunscreen over the top or wear a foundation that contains SPF in it, too.
Overall, is the Holme Beauty Base Primer worth it?
Looking and feeling great in a beauty product is a great way to measure if it’s good, but I also like to take into account when strangers and friends compliment something to do with my beauty routine as well. Whenever I wear this primer, people stop me to tell me how naturally glowy and healthy my skin looks, an experience I had never had with any other complexion products. I know at $70 a pop you might be slightly recoiling but this product is Australian-made, packed with great ingredients and matches the price of other high-end complexion products, too.
