Fashion’s night of nights – the Met Gala – is back for 2024. The gala is easily the most hotly-anticipated annual fashion event across the globe. Headed up by Vogue Us Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, the gala sees the biggest names in Hollywood step out in opulent haute couture to raise money for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s costume institute.

What is the 2024 Met Gala theme?
Since 1973, the Met Gala has had a dress code or a ‘theme’. The theme for the 2024 Met Gala is “The Garden of Time”. This will coincide with the costume institute’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit. This exhibit is set to feature exquisite designs from Elsa Schiaparelli, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Hubert de Givenchy.
The Met Gala theme not only denotes the dress code for that year’s event, it challenges designers, beckons analysis and most importantly, represents the accompanying theme of the Met’s collection for the year.
This year’s theme is based off a short story by J.G. Ballard by the same name. As the title suggests, we can expect to see florals and 17th century Elizabethan frocks for this year’s Met.
Who are the Met Gala’s co-chairs for 2024?
The 2024 Met Gala will be co-chaired by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth. Not only is this Chris’ first time co-chairing the Met Gala, it will be his first-ever time attending, too. His younger brother, Liam Hemsworth, attended alongside ex-wife Miley Cyrus in 2019.
Co-chairs are responsible for promoting and publicising the prestigious event through interviews and events.
When is the 2024 Met Gala?
Historically, the Met Gala always takes place on the first Monday of May. This year’s event will take place on May 6.
Where can I watch the Met Gala?
If you’re eager to see all the dazzling celebrity haute couture moments, the Met Gala red carpet can typically be streamed via Vogue’s website each year. However, once the red carpet is over, cameras will not be allowed within the event itself. It’s even said that Anna Wintour enforces a strict social media ban inside the secretive Gala.
Who is going to this year’s Met Gala?
Each year Anna Wintour meticulously and painstakingly handpicks the Met Gala’s guests. The Met Gala guest list is confidential and therefore, no one knows who is attending until the event takes place.
Though we don’t know who will be attending, we do know that Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew will be in attendance as they are honorary chairs. It is also likely that the chair’s partners may also be in attendance which means we may see Elsa Pataky hit the Met red carpet.
How much does a ticket to the Gala cost?
According to Page Six, last year’s Met Gala tickets saw A-listers forking out upwards of $50,000 to attend the coveted event. Typically, a designer like Yves Saint Laurent or Tom Ford will foot the bill for their celebrity guests.
The money from the tickets benefits the Metropolitan Museum’s costume institute which houses 33,000 pieces ranging from the fifteenth century to the present.
