In London’s Southbank, some of the industry’s most talented stars gathered to attend the prestigious 79th BAFTA Film Awards.
The ceremony, known for its glamour, royal attendees and British wit, was hosted by Scottish actor Alan Cumming (The Traitors).
Prince William and Princess Catherine made a grand return to the BAFTAs 2026, given they have not attended together since 2023.
There were also some familiar Australian faces, including Rose Byrne and Jacob Elordi who were nominated for Leading Actress and Supporting Actor respectively.

Below, The Weekly talks about the highlights and lowlights of the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards.
Aussie’s snubbed
Rose Byrne has experienced a killer award season. Once again she was nominated for her performance in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Unfortunately, the actor lost to Hamnet’s Jessie Buckley.
The same is said for Jacob Elordi, nominated for Frankenstein. As of yet, the 28-year-old hasn’t won an award this season.
A royal visit
Princess Catherine and Prince William haven’t walked the BAFTA red carpet together since 2023. In 2024, Catherine was recovering from surgery so the Prince walked solo. The following year, they were soaking up the sun on a family holiday.
The Prince and Princess of Wales certainly impressed on-lookers, as Catherine wore a dreamy pink gown from Gucci and William donned a dark red Armani velvet jacket.

A moment that particularly caught our eye was the greeting between Princess Catherine and Rose Byrne. The moment was captured by photographers, with Rose’s husband Bobby Cannavale in the background.
Vintage Mugler
Sneaking into the BAFTAs yet again to support her partner Timothee Chalamet, Kylie Jenner wore an archival creation from Thierry Mugler.
The dark velvet gown featured sparkling crystals and embellishments.

Robert Aramayo’s emotional acceptance speech
Many expected Marty Supreme’s Timothee Chalamet to claim best actor at the BAFTAs. However, the award was won by Robert Aramayo for his stellar performance as Scottish Tourette syndrome activist John Davidson in the biographical movie, I Swear.
“I honestly cannot believe I have won this award,” he shared. “When I was in school, Ethan Hawke gave a talk on longevity as an actor, about protecting your instrument and avoiding self-destructive behaviours.”
