Johnny Ruffo’s life was celebrated in an emotional farewell in his hometown after losing his six-year battle with brain cancer on November 10, 2023. Whilst Johnny’s memorial was private, in the following days, family and friends have shared their touching tributes to the late actor and singer.
The first to lead the emotional tributes was Johnny’s partner of over six years, Tahnee Sims, who posted her eulogy titled Love – John Ruffo to Instagram.
“As two people who were both fiercely independent, focused on our own careers, and a bit in denial that we were clearly meant for each other – we used to joke that we should’ve met later in life,” the tribute read.
“But on August 7 2017, four years after we first met, it became very clear why the universe had brought us together so young.”
Tahnee then said that knowing each day could be the couple’s last, they held every hug longer, worked to forgive one another faster, and “ended every single goodbye with an ‘I love you’.”
“Until we meet again John, I love you,” Tahnee finished the moving tribute.
Tahnee’s Instagram post was quickly flooded with messages of support from Johnny’s friends, including Home and Away actress Lynne McGranger who praised Tahnee for her grace and strength.
The Home and Away veteran also posted her own touching tribute to Johnny Ruffo, who portrayed Chris Harrington on the Australian soap.
“Said ‘goodbye for now’ to this magnificent human today. So many emotions, so much love, so blessed to be included in his huge and crazy family,” Lynne captioned the post.
“So many people came to say goodbye, so many more couldn’t get here. We cried and laughed and danced and sang and ate and drank and hugged and cried and …. – exactly how he would have wanted it.
“Fly high my friend, I hope you know how much you’re loved.”
Home and Away actress Ada Nicodemou also shared a touching tribute to Johnny on her Instagram, posting a throwback photo of the pair behind the scenes.
“Farewell our beautiful friend, fly free and rest in peace
“We will always remember your energy and your massive heart, and of course the dance moves.”
Johnny Ruffo passed away on November 10, 2023 at just 35-years-old after losing his battle with brain cancer. The singer and actor was first diagnosed with cancer in 2017, revealing that he had to undergo surgery to remove a brain tumour that same year.
Two years later, in 2019, Johnny entered into remission before sadly, in November 2020, he announced that his cancer had returned.
Two years later, in August, 2022, the actor shared with fans that his cancer was terminal.
The news of Johnny’s untimely passing was first posted onto the singer’s Instagram page by his family.
“It is with a heavy heart that today we had to farewell our beloved Johnny,” the statement read.
“Surrounded by his partner Tahnee and family, Johnny went peacefully with the support of some incredible Nurses & Doctors.
“He was a very talented, charming and sometimes cheeky boy. Johnny was very determined and had a strong will. He battled all the way to the end and fought as hard as he could. Such a beautiful soul with so much more to give.”
Georgie Parker, who worked with Johnny on Home and Away, commented on the post confirming Johnny’s passing and wrote, “Sending love to Johnny’s family, friends and loved ones. He was truly one in a million, funny, bright and such a hard worker. It’s ridiculously cruel that he’s no longer here. Rest up now Johnny.”
Home and Away actress Penny McNamee also commented under the post, writing:
“Oh Johnny. He was the first cast member I ever met on @homeandaway and he was instantly warm, funny and self-deprecating. What joy he brought to the world. Sending all my love to Tahnee, and all Johnny’s family and friends.”
