A third and final Downton Abbey film has been confirmed

By a star of the franchise no less!

Good news Downton Abbey fans! We may not have seen the last of the franchise.

Imelda Staunton, who starred in the two Downton Abbey films as Maud Elliot, Dowager Baroness Bagshaw, recently appeared on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show.

And during the episode, which aired on March 20, 2024, host Zoe Ball asked Imelda whether there were any plans for another Downton Abbey film.

“There will be the final film; there you go,” Imelda replied.

Downton Abbey, the television series, first premiered in 2010.

The show – which follows the intricate lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants, navigating societal changes and personal dramas amidst the backdrop of early 20th century England – ended up running for 6 seasons.

Then, in 2019, the first of the Downton Abbey movies was released. Three years later, Downton Abbey: A New Era, hit cinemas.
