Larry Emdur, the 2024 Gold Logie winner, follows through with acceptance speech promise

"I was so convinced that I wasn't going to win this that I said that if I did win it, I would have all the nominees' initials tattooed on my arse."

Larry Emdur, the 2024 TV Week Gold Logie winner, truly is a man of his word.

Last night, during his acceptance speech for the Gold Logie, Larry had the audience in stitches as he shared a promise he made earlier in the week, stating:

“I was so convinced that I wasn’t going to win this that I said that if I did win it, I would have all the nominees’ initials tattooed on my arse live tomorrow morning.”

The crowd erupted in laughter, with Larry adding, “So we’ll see you on The Morning Show tomorrow!”

Following through with the wild promise, Bondi Ink tattooist Zach permanently marked Larry live on air this morning with Asher Keddie, Robert Irwin, Julia Morris, Tony Armstrong, Sonia Kruger and Andy Lee’s initials.

“I love this tattoo. This, for me, will remind me forever of a beautiful night,” Larry said.

It was a career-defining moment when Larry, a veteran television presenter, took home the prestigious Gold Logie.

Aside from the tattoo promise, Larry also reflected on his long career, acknowledging the many years he spent wondering what it would be like to sit at the winner’s table, in his acceptance speech.

“40 years I’ve been in this business… and for 25, maybe 30 times I’ve sat in this room and thought, ‘I wonder what it’s like sitting on this fancy table down here.'”

Larry then expressed his deep love for television, saying, “I love this business so much. I love being in TV, I love being on TV and I’ve never done anything else and I’ve never wanted to do anything else.”

He continued with a few humorous anecdotes from his career, from interviewing celebrities to being “the most axed man in television.”

Larry then concluded by thanking his family, particularly his wife Sylvie, and paid a cheeky tribute to Tony Armstrong, saying, “Tony Armstrong, Australia’s boyfriend. Now I am Australia’s dirty, old grandpa.”

As he wrapped up, Larry humorously predicted his future, saying, “In 30 years’ time when I’m at the Shady Pines Nursing Home… I want to remember this.”

Nominated for Seven Network’s The Chase Australia and The Morning Show, Larry has had an incredibly successful career.

He began as a newsreader and reporter but quickly switched to entertainment television.
