Guy Sebastian will not return as a judge on The Voice Australia in 2025.
Taking to Instagram just days after the 2024 Grand Finale aired, Guy announced:
“I have made the decision to take a break from the best red chair on the planet. It’s been six amazing years as a coach and it’s honestly been the best gig ever!
“I have nothing but good things to say about the show itself, and sharing the panel with such amazing coaches has been a pleasure.”
Guy went on to share that he’s stepping back from judging the reality singing show to focus on his own music career.
The singer, who shot to fame in 2003 after winning Season 1 of Australian Idol, said he’s been working on an “upcoming album” for the last four years and is “busy planning shows in Australia and worldwide.”
Guy then joked, “Whoever has the audacity to take my chair, don’t get too comfortable… I will wrestle for it back with zero dignity when I’m ready to return.”
Brook Hall, Channel 7’s chief content officer, released a statement shortly after Guy’s post went live, thanking him for the last six years.
“Guy has been a powerhouse coach for The Voice on [Channel] 7,” Brook’s statement read.
“His mentorship and command of artistry has been inspirational to our Voice artists and viewers alike, as well as the production team and all at [Channel] 7.
“We thank Guy for his unwavering passion and positive energy on set, and wish him well for next year, the release of his new album and his live shows.”
Brook went on to tease that Guy’s replacement would be announced soon.
“Our full coaching lineup for the 2025 season of The Voice will be revealed in coming months.”
Guy first became a Voice judge — or as the show calls it, ‘coach’ — in 2019, replacing Joe Jonas.
Over the last six years, only one of Guy’s contestants has won: Bella Taylor Smith in 2021.
This year, Guy chose SKŸE as his Grand Finalist but Reuben De Melo, coached by LeAnn Rimes, ultimately won.
