Nearly six decades after its 1965 premiere, I Dream of Jeannie remains a beloved sitcom, thanks to its whimsical blend of magic and romance.

But where is the I Dream of Jeannie cast now? And what did they do after the series ended in 1970?

Wonder no longer, The Weekly has done a deep dive into the careers of main I Dream of Jeannie cast members: Barbara Eden, Larry Hagman, Bill Daily and Hayden Rorke.

Barbara Eden:

Prior to I Dream of Jeannie, Barbara had been involved with numerous projects.

In 1955, she was a semiregular on The Johnny Carson Show. Then after having small roles in several television shows and films, Barbara played the leading lady in A Private’s Affair in 1959.

The next year, in 1960, she co-starred in Flaming Star with Elvis Presley.

Barbaba went on to star in the films The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm, Five Weeks in a Balloon, Swingin’ Along and The Yellow Canary.

And in 1964, the actress had a supporting role in The Brass Bottle.

How old was Barbara Eden when she played I Dream of Jeannie?

After seeing her performance in The Brass Bottle, series creator Sidney Sheldon cast Barbara as the lead in I Dream of Jeannie. She was 33-years-old when filming first commenced.

Barbara ended up playing Jeannie for five years, starring in a total of 139 episodes.

Did Barbara Eden do anything after I Dream of Jeannie?

Yes! Barbara continued acting. She starred in Harper Valley PTA, Stonestreet: Who Killed the Centerfold Model?, and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch among many other things.

Most recently, Barbara played Mrs Claus in the 2019 film My Adventures with Santa.

Aside from acting, Barbara pursued a singing career – she released an album in 1967 and starred in multiple musicals post-I Dream of Jeannie.

Barbara also released her memoir, Jeannie out of the Bottle, in 2011 and a children’s book, Barbara and the Djinn, in 2021.

As of September 2024, Barbara is 93-years-old and retired three years ago.

Larry Hagman:

Prior to I Dream of Jeannie, Larry starred in a few plays and musicals before receiving his draft notice in 1952.

Subsequently, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in London. He left the Air Force four years later in 1956.

Following his military service, Larry went back to starring in stage productions. Larry then appeared in a few television shows and films but his big break was I Dream of Jeannie.

Larry played Jeannie’s master and eventual love interest Air Force Captain Anthony Nelson; talk about life imitating art. Or should we say art imitating life?

After I Dream of Jeannie, Larry went on to play JR Ewing in the soap opera Dallas from 1978 to 1991. He was nominated for two Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy Awards for his performance.

Larry then starred in numerous other projects including Nixon, Superman and Primary Colours.

And in 2012, Larry reprised his role as JR Ewing in the revival of Dallas.

Sadly, Larry died on November 23, 2012 from complications of acute myeloid leukaemia.

Bill Daily:

Bill starred in I Dream of Jeannie as Major Roger Healey. Prior to the show, he worked as a comedian and actor.

Following I Dream of Jeannie, Bill played Howard Borden on The Bob Newhart Show from 1972 to 1978.

He then went on to have several bit parts in numerous projects. Bill’s final acting role was voicing GrandPa in the 2011 animated film Horroween.

Bill died of natural causes seven years later on September 4, 2018, aged 91.

Hayden Rorke:

Hayden was best known for playing Dr Bellows in I Dream of Jeannie.

However, prior to the series, he guest starred in a few notable shows like Bewitched, I Love Lucy and The Twilight Zone, and had small roles in the films When Worlds Collide and All That Heaven Allows.

Hayden died in 1987 of multiple myeloma.

His final acting role was reprising Dr Bellows in the 1985 television reunion movie I Dream of Jeannie… Fifteen Years Later.

Ratings fell after Jeannie and Tony got married in Season 5.

Why did I Dream of Jeannie get cancelled?

Many say that I Dream of Jeannie was cancelled because it’s ratings began to fall in Season 5 (which ended up being the last season) after Jeannie and Tony got married in Episode 11.

Ultimately though, series creator Sidney Sheldon decided to end the show because he felt it had reached its creative peak.
