How did Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons’ meet?
Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons first met while filming the first season of Fargo in 2014.
The Virgin Suicides star was still dating Garrett Hedlund at the time, but according to the New York Times, the pair would stay up late running lines with each other.
“They often stayed up late running lines with each other, a level of dedication that had been drummed into them from a lifetime spent in the entertainment industry,” a 2020 profile reads.
When asked in a 2015 interview what it was like working with Kirsten, Jesse said it was a “gift”.

“I loved Kirsten’s work for a long time, and I was really excited once I’d met her, and she’s a great person, and we’re both actors that just have fun with the material,” he said at the time.
In January 2016, the pair reunited when they attended the 21st Annual Critics’ Choice Awards, along with the rest of the cast of Fargo.
“I don’t often remember every detail about meeting someone,” Jesse would later say about the night. “[however] immediately without too many words being exchanged I looked into her eyes and saw the beautiful, sweet, unguarded, welcoming human being that she is. And it truly was in an instant. Immediately my nerves and anxiety dissolved and I knew everything was going to be alright.”
“It was one of those connections where you just know,” Kirsten told the New York Times‘s Kyle Buchanan in 2020.
“But we’re also very respectful people and were mindful of the fact that we were working together intensely. After we were done with the show, we’d FaceTime now and then, and I just missed him. I missed being around him. And he did, too.
“We didn’t get together until the following March, when we’d had the time to realise how much we missed each other and how much we wanted to be in each others’ lives.”
Inside Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons’ family life
In May 2016, Kirsten and Jesse were spotted together for the first time after The Spider-Man star appeared at the Cannes Film Festival.
Later that year, Kirsten posted about Jesse’s upcoming film Other People on her Instagram, writing “I LOVED this movie #otherpeople opens Sept 9th.”
They both then attended the Emmys for Fargo, with a source telling E!News they were “very much a couple”.
“[Kirsten] leaned into Jesse and very passionately kissed him on the lips after she caressed his cheek very affectionately,” the source said at the time.
In January 2017, Page Six announced that former co-stars had become engaged over the Golden Globes weekend.

Later that year, Kirsten would speak about their relationship for the first time during an appearance on Jimmy Fallon.
“You’re making me nervous!” she said when Jimmy asked her about the rumours she was engaged to Jesse.
“I’ve got to keep things private a little bit. We got together a year afterwards. We became really good friends first.” she explained. “You’re like, ‘Oh, I really love this person. I love hanging out with him.'”
In a January 2018 photoshoot for Rodarte, Kirsten revealed she was pregnant with the couple’s first child.
“I thought I would have a hard time getting pregnant, but it was a surprise,” she later revealed in an interview with Net-A-Porter. “If I hadn’t met Jesse, I would have frozen my eggs. [But] it feels like I lucked out.”
In May that year, they welcomed their son who they named Ennis Howard Plemons.
Later that year, when Kirsten received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Jesse paid tribute to his fiance during a speech at the ceremony.
“Aside from the brilliant actor you are, I have also had the even greater pleasure of getting to know you as a person outside of work — KiKi or Keeks,” he said. “Seeing the kind of mother and wife, daughter, sister, friend and cohort you are is why I and all of your friends and everyone else are here today and why we all love you.”
In March 2021, again dressed in Rodarte, Kirsten announced she was pregnant with the couple’s second son, and they welcomed James Robert a few months later.
“Getting pregnant during lockdown was good for me mentally because I had to take care of myself and I had something to look forward to,” she told Vogue at the time.
“But, it was also scary and really isolating. Your kids are affected by it too. It hurts you as a parent to see your kid in a mask going to school. But also, he had both of us every day and we got to hang out together. It’s so wild what we all went through in different ways and what we’re still going through.”
The following year, the couple tied the knot in a private ceremony, with Kirsten’s rep telling Page Six at the time: “I can just confirmed they got married. No other details will be given”.
Earlier this year, in an interview with Us Weekly, Kirsten revealed how they co-parent in between filming their latest projects.
“We had the summer together. It’s like, whoever’s up next,” she said. “We’re still trying to figure it out. It’s really hard. They’re 4 and 7, and they’re two boys. It’s a lot.”
