Australian tennis stars Jason Kubler and Maddison Inglis are riding high this tennis season. Fresh after they announced their engagement, both were selected in the Australian Open main draw. Maddison already has some nice wins under her belt. She’s giving the best performance of her career and has reached the fourth round of the Australian Open!
Could they be Australia’s new favourite tennis romance? Sorry, Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter!
Let’s dive into their love story and how they are faring at the 2026 Australian Open.
Maddison Inglis and Jason Kubler’s relationship timeline
The tennis stars kept the beginnings of their love story private. However, they have both been in the same tennis circles for years. Reportedly, the couple spent part of the COVID-19 lockdown together in Perth with Maddison’s family.
They revealed they were in a relationship at the 2023 Australian Open in a mixed doubles match. Throughout that Grand Slam, they were also spotted in the stands watching and supporting each other in their matches.
Jason suffered an injury which kept him off the court for nearly a year. He returned in November 2024 at the Brisbane Pro Tour, and Madison was also supporting from the sidelines.
In a sweet coincidence, they both hit the second qualifying round in Paris for the French Open on Jason’s 32nd birthday in November 2025.
Following that and ahead of the Australian Open Grand Slam, the two took a trip to Rottnest Island. It was there that Jason popped the question.
Maddy shared the news on her Instagram with a post captioned “Our first time to rotto was pretty special.”

They both were on the Australian team for the United Cup, and the couple shared their thoughts on the engagement.
“I didn’t anticipate the hour leading up. I was so nervous. That was crazy. Felt like we were on a first date again,” he said on a media event.
“It was our first time to Rotto, and such a special spot to do it; it was very exciting,” Maddy added.
Australian Open 2026 results thus far
Both tennis players made the main draw for the 2026 Australian Open.
Jason’s singles campaign this year ended in the first round. He drew American Frances Tiafoe (seeded around No. 29) and couldn’t get past him, losing 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-2. However, he’s still in the doubles with partner Marc Polmans. They caused a big stir by defeating the fan-favourite Aussie duo Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis in a tight three-setter (6-4, 4-6, 7-6) in the early round.
Maddison has been one of the standout Aussie performers so far at Melbourne Park. She was the last Australian left in the singles draw, after an upset with Aussie hopeful Maya Joint lost in the first round of the women’s singles against Czech teenager Tereza Valentová.
She battled through qualifying into the main draw, notching a gritty win over Kimberly Birrell in the first round. In the second round, she produced a huge upset over world No. 48 Laura Siegemund, winning a marathon three-setter 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 in a deciding tiebreak. That victory puts her through to the third round (Round of 32) — her best result at a Grand Slam since she also made the third round here in 2022.
She was ready to face Naomi Osaka, a former Australian Open champion. However, Naomi withdrew at the last minute, projecting Maddison into the fourth round. It may not be how she would have liked to reach that milestone, but she also wins prize money (at least A$480,000) for getting this far!
Her next test was against the world number 2 and multiple Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek. Sadly, Iga bested her on the day, but Maddison bowed out of the Grand Slam in grace.
“Didn’t want that dream to ever end… two weeks I’ll never forget,” she wrote on Instagram. “Thank you Craig Tiley and Australian Open for putting on the best tournament in the world 💙 so grateful for the support I had – thank you!!!!!”
“So proud of you,” Jason wrote in a comment on her post.
