“We were friends for two years. I know she wasn’t into me,” Freddie recalled to Entertainment Tonight in 2024.
“I was not her type. And she wasn’t my type. At all. We were just friends. All of a sudden, we went out to a dinner that was supposed to be; there was supposed to be a third person there [but] they no-showed.,” he continued.
“And so we just went to dinner ourselves. When dinner ended, things just kind of were different; maybe it was just the alcohol. Or maybe we just saw each other differently for the first time. But it was no longer friendly. It was definitely romantic. Once we started dating, the trust thing never had to be built because it already existed.”

Roughly seven years after getting married, Sarah and Freddie welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Charlotte in September 2009. A few years later they welcomed their second – and last – child, a son called Rocky also born mere days apart from his sister in 2012.
At the time, both Sarah and Freddie put aside their careers to focus on their children. In a 2020 interview with PEOPLE, Freddie shed some insight into why he also stepped away from the screen.
“I had kids and not having a dad, it was always more important to me to be a present father,” he said.

“Three years later you sped into our lives Rocky. I should have known by the way you raced into this world, what your future would hold,” she began. “Aside from being one of the fastest in the state, you are one of the most polite, kind and funny kids I know. I can’t believe you are a teenager. I love you more than my words can express!!!”
