Now that the second season has concluded, fans of The Last of Us will have to patiently wait for Season 3.
In the meantime, here’s everything we know so far.
Will there be a Season 3 of Last of Us?
Yes, there will be a third season of The Last of Us.
The Emmy Award-winning show was renewed for a third season on April 10, 2025.
Craig Mazin – series co-creator, executive producer, writer, and director – said in a statement:
“We look forward to continuing the story of The Last of Us with Season 3.”

Is The Last of Us Season 2 finished?
Yes, the seventh and final episode of Season 2 was released on Max on May 26, 2025.
SPOILER: The season ended with Ellie ultimately deciding to abandon her quest for revenge.
But then came a doozy of a cliffhanger: Ellie, Jesse and Tommy were ambushed by Abby.
She pointed her gun at Ellie and, just as the screen cut to black, pulled the trigger.
In the final scene, Abby was woken up at the WLF headquarters and a caption read, “Seattle Day One.”
Which means it’s extremely likely that Season 3 will retell the events of Season 2 but from Abby’s perspective.

Who will be in The Last of Us Season 3?
Nothing official has been announced yet regarding casting but it’s probable that Bella Ramsey, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, Danny Ramirez, Rutina Wesley, Hettienne Park, and Jeffrey Wright will return for Season 3.
Pedro Pascal could also appear if there’s a flashback – but, admittedly, the chances of this happening are slim.
How many seasons of Last of Us are there going to be?
Craig has already teased that there could ultimately be four seasons of The Last of Us.
This is because the video game The Last of Us Part II has a rich and expansive story, and Season 2 only scratched the surface of it.
“We don’t think that we’re going to be able to tell the story even within two seasons [2 and 3] because we’re taking our time and [going] down interesting pathways which we did a little bit in Season 1 too,” Craig told Deadline.
“We feel like it’s almost assuredly going to be the case that – as long as people keep watching and we can keep making more television – Season 3 will be significantly larger. And indeed, the story may require Season 4.”
