Is there going to be a Season 3 of And Just Like That?

Yes! On August 23, 2023, it was announced that And Just Like That had been given the green light to produce a third season. However, in December 2023, HBO Max confirmed we won’t get Season 3 until 2025.

This is likely because the now-settled WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes delayed production. Plus, both Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon were busy in early 2024 – Sarah and her husband Matthew Broderick brought their Broadway revival of Plaza Suite to the West End and Cynthia starred in the off-Broadway play The Seven Year Disappear – meaning two of the show’s leads weren’t available to film until April 2024.

Who is in And Just Like That?

And Just Like That is a continuation of the Sex and the City series and films, so most of the original cast has returned. And Just Like That stars Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbs and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York Goldenblatt.

Sex and the City regulars Mario Cantone (Anthony Marentino), Evan Handler (Harry Goldenblatt) and David Eigenberg (Steve Brady) star in And Just Like That too.

The series also features Chris Noth as John ‘Mr Big’ Preston in Season 1, John Corbett as Aidan Shaw in Season 2 and, very briefly, Willie Garson as Stanford Blatch in Season 1 – Willie tragically passed away of pancreatic cancer during filming for Season 1 and so, his character Stanford had to be written out of the show.

Additionally, the Sex and the City reboot introduced us to several new characters: Che Diaz, played by Sara Ramirez, Lisa Todd Wexley, played by Nicole Ari Parker, Seema Patel, played by Sarita Choudhury, and Dr. Nya Wallace, played by Karen Pittman. Although, it was confirmed in early 2024, that Sara Ramirez and Karen Pittman would not return for the upcoming And Just Like That Season 3.

Why is Samantha not in And Just Like That?

Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall, appeared in every single episode of Sex and the City as well as the two films Sex and the City and Sex and the City 2. So Samantha’s absence in Season 1 of And Just Like That is extremely noticeable.

But the reason Samantha doesn’t appear is because Kim had a very public falling out with Sarah Jessica.

It all began in October 2017, when Kim – during an interview with Piers Morgan – said she had a “toxic relationship” with SJP.

“We’ve never been friends. We’ve been colleagues and in some ways, it’s a very healthy place to be because then you have a clear line between your professional life and relationship and your personal [life],” Kim went on to say.

Sarah Jessica responded to Kim’s comments in February 2018 during an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live.

“I don’t know; I found it really upsetting because that’s, you know, that’s not the way I recall our experience,” she said.

Then, also in February 2018, Kim slammed SJP on social media. Following the tragic death of Kim’s brother, Sarah Jessica gave her condolences to Kim on Instagram.

And Kim responded with, “I don’t need your love or support at this tragic time.”

She went on to post, “My Mom [sic] asked me today ‘When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?’ Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”

In February 2022, SJP revealed to Variety that Kim hadn’t been asked to reprise her role as Samantha for And Just Like That. She also said she wouldn’t feel comfortable working with Kim again because “there’s just too much public history of feelings on her part that she’s shared”.

Shortly after this, Kim confirmed that she wasn’t asked to reprise her role in a separate interview with Variety. “I was never asked to be part of the reboot. I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did — on social media,” Kim said.

However, despite her clear dislike of Sarah Jessica Parker and despite not appearing at all in Season 1 of And Just Like That, Kim did eventually agree to film a small cameo for the reboot series.

In the Season 2 finale of And Just Like That, Kim reprises her role for one scene – which Kim filmed without having to interact or speak with any of the stars of And Just Like That. In the scene, Samantha (who in the series has moved from New York to London) has a brief phone conversation with Carrie.
