Few members of the royal family are as respected as Princess Anne, the Princess Royal. Known for her no-nonsense attitude and tireless work ethic, Anne also treasures her role as a devoted mother and grandmother.
Away from the pomp of official duties, she shares down-to-earth moments with her five grandchildren. From cheering them on at sporting events to enjoying family days in the countryside.
Who are Princess Anne’s children?
Princess Anne has two children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, from her first marriage to Captain Mark Phillips. Both of whom were raised without royal titles at her request, giving them a more down-to-earth upbringing.
Peter shares his two daughters with his former wife, Autumn Kelly, a Canadian-born management consultant. Zara Phillips — now Zara Tindall — has three children with her husband, Mike Tindall, the former England rugby union player.
How many grandchildren does Princess Anne have?
As mentioned, through Peter and Zara, the Princess Royal is grandmother to five grandchildren: Savannah Phillips (born 2010), Isla Phillips (born 2012), Mia Grace Tindall (born 2014), Lena Elizabeth Tindall (born 2018), and Lucas Philip Tindall (born 2021).
Peter, who is now engaged to an NHS nurse, Harriet Sperling, shared what his mother was like as a grandmother in the 2020 ITV documentary, Anne: The Princess Royal at 70.
“She loves seeing them ride [horses], she loves having them round for Sunday lunches and taking them for walks. Doing all the things that we would do as kids.”
In a rare comment, Princess Anne shared that her granddaughters love to cook. She was making her first official visit to The Naval Children’s Charity for its 200th anniversary. Anne has been a patron of the charity since March 2025, following 70 years of patronage by Queen Elizabeth II. The team gifted the Princess Royal some merchandise, including a child’s apron. She remarked that it might not fit her, but she had others in mind:
“It might fit my grandchildren, they all cook, actually.”

Princess Anne’s sweetest moments with her grandchildren capture a rarely seen side of the hardworking royal.
