Following COVID-19, many Australians are packing our bags and flying to new destinations to make up for lost time. But given the economy, we are also hunting down how to make the best bang for our buck.
This is where travel points come into the equation.
There are so many opportunities for travellers to earn points while doing menial tasks, whether this be shopping for groceries, filling up the car with petrol, or even sleeping.
Yes, sleeping.
But with so many ways to accumulate travel points, it has become quite confusing. Below, we are discussing all the hacks to earn you more travel points and get you closer to upgrading those economy tickets to business class.
Grocery shopping
For every $1 you spend at Woolworths, BWS, Big W and Woolworths fuel outlets, you will earn one Everyday Rewards point. When your account reaches 2,000 Everyday Rewards points, it will be converted to 1,000 Qantas Points.

Meanwhile, those seeking Velocity Points can do their weekly grocery shopping at Coles, using their loyalty program Flybuys to redeem points. The Coles to Virgin’s Velocity Points conversion is the same rate as its competitor, 2:1.
Store Memberships
If you have a membership at stores like David Jones and Hoyts, you can earn one Qantas Point on every $1 spent on eligible transactions.
Given the countless companies housed under David Jones, you could be easily raking the points over shopping holidays like Black Friday, Christmas, Boxing Day etc.
Additionally, Qantas has recently partnered with HelloFresh. Travellers could earn up to 10,000 Qantas Points and save up to $100 across the first 10 HelloFresh boxes.
Qantas Wellbeing App
Want to earn points while you sleep? In the Qantas Wellbeing App, you can set a schedule where the app will then track when you sleep and when you wake up in the morning.
Qantas Wellbeing App offers a 28-day trial where you can earn up to 1,000 points. While this isn’t going to send you straight into first class, every point helps!

You can also earn points by completing your daily and weekly walking challenge, trackable through the health app on your phone or other tracking devices. The amount of points you earn are determined by the amount of steps you challenge yourself to.
Airline Shopping
Velocity has partnerships with a staggering 459 companies ranging from dining, shipping, credit cards, car rentals, hotels, and so much more. However, the number of points per dollar spent vary depending on the company.
Through the Velocity app you simply select the retailer you wish to shop online with, select ‘shop now’ and complete your purchase as normal. The points tend to enter the account within 30 days of the transaction.
Qantas Frequent Flyer has the same process via its app. The app also features promotional codes and coupons its customers can use.
Qantas has additionally launched a marketplace where travellers can purchase anything from a handbag to a new iPhone.
