Looking for the ultimate warm getaway from the winter chill that’s also secluded? You’re in luck. Lizard Island is the little-known tropical paradise off the coast of Queensland that offers utter serenity and comfortably warm temperatures.
With endless crystal blue waters to explore and wispy, sandy beaches to lounge on, you’ll forget all about the dreary, wintery monotony back home.

Exmouth in Western Australia is the perfect place to escape the cold. With winter temperatures ranging from 25 to 28 degrees on average, you won’t need to pack any coats for your holiday here.
Exmouth is home to the Ningaloo Reef, which is one of the largest fringing coral reefs in the world. Swim in the glistening waters or snorkel and explore the depths of the coral reefs. In the early months of winter, you can also get a chance to catch a rare glimpse of whale sharks, which migrate to the reef to feed on plankton.

Port Douglas
Queensland
Swap suburban winter for a tropical one with a trip to Port Douglas. Located in far north Queensland, Port Douglas has year-round warm weather with temperatures sitting at 18 to 26 degrees in the winter. Relax on the beach, explore the Great Barrier Reef or traipse through Australia’s oldest tropical rainforest, the Daintree Rainforest.

Northern Territory
The Tiwi Islands off the coast of the Northern Territory are the land unscathed by the winter cold. With temperatures staying at a scorching 30-32 degrees even in the colder months, this is the ultimate winter escape. These secluded islands have an abundance of adventurous and relaxing activities to keep you occupied.
The Tiwi Islands are also home to a rich Indigenous community and history. There is a range of cultural tours, workshops and activities where you can learn all about the rich culture of the island.

Broome is another stellar winter holiday option when you’re looking to escape the cold. The Western Australian town enjoys temperatures in the high 20s and early 30s throughout winter, so you won’t feel the chill. Soak in the white sands, blue waters and red cliffs of the iconic Cable Beach during your stay. You’ll also be able to spot a humpback whale or two if you’re lucky, from the shorelines.
You’ll see Broome’s vibrant culture in the later winter months with several festivals kicking off, including the Shinju Matsuri festival (Japanese Festival of the Pearl) and the Staircase to the Moon Night Markets.
