Aussies are spending earlier and more in 2025

If you think Black Friday kicks off in late November, think again. Two-thirds (67 per cent) of Australians plan to finish most of their Christmas shopping before December – the earliest on record, according to Afterpay’s 2025 Festive Forecast.

With cost-of-living pressures still biting, Aussies are getting more strategic about when they spend. Nearly half (45 per cent) say they’ll hold out for big-ticket sales, while 72 per cent still plan to treat themselves to self-care purchases – a reminder that Black Friday isn’t just about giving, it’s also about a little self-gifting.

“Australians are becoming savvier than ever this holiday season,” says Katrina Konstas, Country Manager, Afterpay ANZ. “Cost-of-living pressures have made people much more strategic – shopping earlier, timing purchases around sales. Despite the challenges, Aussies still want to give thoughtful gifts and prioritise self-care, which shows the resilience of the festive spirit.”

The numbers back it up: nearly 40 per cent of Aussies cashed in on Black Friday deals last year, making it the biggest shopping day of 2024 and a clear sign that knowing the Black Friday products predicted to sell out first is more important than ever!

Household heroes & everyday essentials

These aren’t impulse buys – they’re practical upgrades Aussies swear by. Our editors have reviewed hundreds of deals and analysed last year’s sales data to highlight the Black Friday products predicted to sell out.

Air fryers remain the champion of kitchen must-haves, with premium models from Breville and Philips consistently selling out within the first 24 hours. Robot vacuum cleaners, particularly models from brands like Roborock, Dreame and Ecovacs, are another hot ticket item that busy families are relying on more.

Washing machines and fridges might not be glamorous, but they’re among the smartest investments you can make during Black Friday. The Good Guys, Bing Lee and Myer typically offer their deepest discounts.

Beauty, fashion, wellness & self-care favourites

Here’s where things get competitive. The Dyson Airwrap and Shark FlexStyle have become the unofficial mascots of Black Friday beauty deals. According to Finder’s analysis of search data, Dyson consistently ranks among the most searched-for term during Black Friday sales periods.

LED face masks, Fitbits and premium skincare sets are also tipped to fly off shelves. While clothes and shoes remain the top shopping categories (62 per cent of Aussies planned to refresh their wardrobe last year), it’s these wellness and beauty gadgets that really sell out the quickest.

Editor’s tips

If you’ve had your eye on one of these, don’t wait. Last year, many of the most sought-after products sold out before Black Friday even officially began, with stock never returning before Christmas. The best deals are often the first to go, and when retailers promise “limited stock” every year, they usually mean it.

Set reminders, make your wishlist now and have your payment details ready. The difference between scoring your dream deal and missing out often comes down to minutes, not hours.

Shop smart, shop early, and happy hunting!
