There’s good news for Idris Elba fans: the Golden Globe-winning actor is penning a book series. More good news? The first three books have already been confirmed.
In the press statement from Idris’s US publisher, Bantam, Idris says, “I have a personal interest in shining a light on contemporary Africa and the Exiles series offers a unique opportunity to thrill and entertain, while showcasing the world’s most dynamic continent.”

What is Idris Elba’s book about?
It has been announced that Idris Elba has signed a three-book deal for a new thriller series, with the books co-written with author Adam Hamdy. The series follows Joe Kane, an M16 field operative who specialises in complex and often dangerous missions.
In the first book, Exiles, Joe is sent to Mauritius, an African island nation, to investigate the attempted murder of a fellow operative. He teams up with Aliana Baptiste from the Mauritian Police, and together they uncover a conspiracy with global implications.
Bantam describes Idris Elba’s book as “a thrill-a-minute adventure that takes readers beneath the skin of a vibrant and glamorous tropical paradise”.
Who is Adam Hamdy?
Idris Elba is co-writing the Exiles book series with Adam Hamdy. Adam is a screenwriter and novelist, as well as a Sunday Times bestseller. His books include The Other Side of Night and the Pendulum series. Additionally, he’s co-authored several books with James Patterson.
In the press statement, Adam says of the co-writing partnership, “I’ve been a fan of Idris Elba since The Wire, so having an opportunity to collaborate with him … is a dream come true. We’re thrilled to be bringing Exiles to readers around the world.”
When will the book be released?
Exiles is expected to release in May 2027 as a hardcover book, as well as an audiobook. Watch this space for more information!
