Getaway host Catriona Rowntree has experienced a difficult few weeks as her older sister, Lucinda lost her battle with cancer.
But she continues to cherish small moments in such a “tender” time. Almost two weeks after her passing, Catriona stepped out with her Mum, admitting what a relief it was to see her mum smiling once more.
“The smiles are back!” she began on Instagram as the pair attended a Blue Illusion Mother’s Day event.

“I truly wasn’t sure if Mum would make it, we are so tender right now, so to step out and be among these incredible mothers and daughters was exactly what the doctor ordered. I am teary just seeing my Mum smiling again and looking so darn gorgeous in her Blue Illusion,” she concluded.
Lucinda was diagnosed with Stage Four cancer in 2023. Later in 2024, Catriona said her sister was responding well to chemotherapy and doctors were happy with the progress.
The television host rarely spoke about her sister’s cancer journey following this. But on April 10, the 54-year-old shared the devastating news of Lucinda’s passing to Instagram.
“Lucinda truly ‘threw kindness around like confetti’, everyone adored her,” she reflected.
“The apple of my parents eyes, Lucinda went on to marry her first sweetheart, Johnno. They travelled the world together, Lucinda achieved her Teachers Degree, then settled down to focus on her one true love, her family of four children. All agree ‘worlds best Mum’.

“Lucinda had a talent with children and even had a gift store named after her beloved daughter Daisy!
“Her health journey has seen our family experience so much kindness from others, thank you so very much, it’s been treasured… I am just so sad to share that tonight, heaven has a new angel, our beautiful Lucinda.”
A week later, the family bid their final farewell to Lucinda, with her funeral taking place on her birthday.
