Dami Im attempting a world record at Matildas game

The Korean-Australian singer is the perfect choice for the match!

The Matildas are already up to a flying start at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, winning their first two games against the Philippines and Iran. On International Women’s Day, the Matildas will take on South Korea, and none other than Dami Im is opening the game!

“I often say I’m born in Korea, made in Australia – so being asked to perform both the Australian and South Korean national anthems for the upcoming Australia vs Korea Republic AFC Women’s Asia Cup match is so special,” Dami said in a statement.

The Korean-Australian singer, who won X Factor, has represented Australia on the international stage before with the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016. She placed second. This year, the Australian entry is Delta Goodrem. Read our interview with Delta here.

But Dami performing at Sunday night’s game is not all she’s doing. The X Factor winner is also putting her support behind a world record attempt taking place at the same time.

Stadia 2 Street is a movement to amplify women in sports and their fans by encouraging fans to embellish their gear or jersey with their own unique, fashionable elements.

“On International Women’s Day, right before the Australia vs Korea Republic game, at exactly 7:30 pm AEDT, we’ll all take and post a selfie at the same moment,” Dami explained. “So, whether you’re repping Australia, Korea, or any team at all – show us your look. This is open to everyone! Get involved. Be loud; be proud; be stylish.”

We don’t know who Dami Im will be supporting on the night (perhaps both sides?). However, in the images, she’s sporting a South Korean jersey and a lime green skirt (reminiscent of the Matildas gear!).
