Sharing a life and a career with a significant other isn’t all soft, sweet melodies and frolicking through grassy paddocks. Although it appears that way for country music duo Brooke McClymont and Adam Eckersley, their relationship has been tested over time. 18 years, to be exact.

Brooke and Adam joined host, Tiffany Dunk, on The Australian Women’s Weekly Love Stories podcast to share their love story.

It all began among the quiet, suburban streets of a small New South Wales town, Grafton, where they grew up and met as teenagers.

But it wasn’t exactly love at first sight, at least for Brooke.

“I’m gonna marry you one day!” Adam would shout from his house as Brooke rode past every morning on her bike. “In your dreams, mullet head!” she would yell back.

After spending some time working on their music careers, the pair reconnected at the pub one Christmas spent back in their hometown.

Brooke’s attempt to charm Adam involved inviting him over to share cabanossi, brie and a selection of “fancy” dips, a night that led to the decision to become more than friends.

Brooke had just signed a record deal, and Adam was living out of his car. They signed a six-month lease on a place together, just in case things didn’t work out.

“Take care of today, and tomorrow will take care of itself,” Adam tells Tiffany; it was their relationship mantra. But they never looked back.

Once their children Tiggy and Elroy were born, they had to juggle the two most important things in their lives: family and career.

The desire to say yes to every career opportunity became unrealistic, but they found a rhythm that worked. “Having kids only strengthened our connection, as we felt like a team,” Brooke recalls.

Adam jokes that during the six weeks Brooke spent on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, he experienced what he likes to call “I’m a parent, get me out of here!”

Life on the road became harder, and Brooke and Adam set a rule where they didn’t allow themselves to be apart for longer than three weeks. Brooke speaks of how grateful she was for family support: “It takes a village to keep us on the road.”

Cost of living struggles during lockdown forced the couple to make a difficult decision about whether they would sell their farm.

But a great idea came to the rescue, saving their property and giving them purpose and inspiration for their music.

“Hang at the Wang” is a weekend event where fans are invited to Brooke and Adam’s property on the Mid North Coast for an exclusive glamping and live music experience.

The track “In And Out Of Love” from their new album Souls on Show sums up how Brooke and Adam approach their marriage today and their mindset to tackling life together.

They recall facing tough times where the easy choice would have been to walk away. But instead, they chose to acknowledge that facing conflict doesn’t reflect how they feel about each other.

“There’s no act to keep up. We’re unapologetically ourselves,” Adam shares.

“Love is finding someone you can laugh with, have fun with, and be completely open and honest with,” Brooke adds.

To this day, music has stayed at the centre of their relationship. “I’m still her biggest fan. Every time we get on stage, I get to stand back and watch her do her thing. It never gets old,” Adam gushes.
