Sally simply felt that it was “the right time” to step away from the Paddington films.

While she didn’t give a specific reason as to why she wasn’t returning for the third film, Sally did say in a statement:

“The experience of making the first two films has truly been some of the best and most creative times I have had in the world of film. They both gave me so much joy. I will forever hold them so very close to my heart indeed.”

Why was Mrs. Brown recast?

Well, as Sally wasn’t willing to return for Paddington 3, producers had no choice but to recast Mrs. Brown – there’s no way the character could’ve been written out!

Emily Mortimer will play Mrs. Brown in Paddington in Peru, something Sally is completely fine with.

“For me it has felt the right time to hand the reins over to another, and one can’t get much better than the truly wonderful Emily Mortimer, she is extraordinarily special,” Sally said in the same statement mentioned above.

Will Hugh Grant be in Paddington 3?

At this stage, it’s not been confirmed whether Hugh Grant, who played the villain Phoenix Buchanan in the second film, will appear in Paddington 3.

Fans have speculated he will because in a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Hugh was asked whether he thinks Paddington Bear has forgiven him.

Hugh said in response, “It’s funny you say that – actually, I can’t go down that alley.”

The actor then made a face and pivoted hard.

“He’s a very forgiving bear. ‘Be kind and polite and the world will be right,’ as Aunt Lucy said.”
