Canadian musician Bryan Adams has announced that Pretty Women: The Musical is coming to the Lyric Theatre QPAC in October 2025.
The Grammy winner co-wrote the music and the lyrics of the musical which is based on the incredibly popular 1990 film starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. The film itself is loosely based on the musical My Fair Lady which was adapted from George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion. So it’s come full circle in a way!

“I’m thrilled Pretty Woman is finally in Australia”, said Bryan, who is currently on his So Happy It Hurts tour in Australia. “I went to see it last year and it blew me away!”
Like the movie, the musical follows sex worker Vivian and wealthy businessman Edward who fall for one another. They must overcome significant hurdles to bridge the gap in their respective worlds.
Pretty Woman: The Musical is directed and choreographed by two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde, Hairspray), the musical’s book is by the movie’s director Garry Marshall and screenwriter J.F. Lawton and, of course, it is scored by the aforementioned Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance (who also wrote ‘Summer of ’69’ and ‘Heaven’).

The musical made its stage debut on Broadway in 2018. It has since travelled across Europe from the West End to Italy, Spain, Poland, and Germany.
Musicals are really having a moment in Australia. The news follows other iconic musicals making their Australian stage debut; such as Hamilton, and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.
