Based on the Patricia Cornwall book series of the same name, Scarpetta will follow the titular character – Dr Kay Scarpetta – as she uses advanced forensic technology to unravel mysteries and solve crimes.

Is there going to be a Scarpetta TV series?
Yes!
Comet Pictures, a production company owned by Jamie Lee Curtis and Blumhouse Television, first started work on a television adaptation of Patricia Cornwall’s Scarpetta books in June 2021.
Filming then commenced in October 2024 and wrapped in March of this year.
Is Nicole Kidman playing Kay Scarpetta?
Yes, Oscar and Emmy Award winner Nicole Kidman will star in the series as Dr Kay Scarpetta.
In the books, Kay is described as a brilliant and beautiful forensic pathologist with a fierce sense of justice.
Patricia Cornwall has confirmed that the character was inspired by former Virginia Chief Medical Examiner Marcella Farinelli Fierro MD.
Who will play Lucy in the Scarpetta series?
Lucy, Kay’s niece, will be played by Oscar winner Ariana DeBose.
Who else is in the cast?
The cast is stacked with Oscar winners… Jamie Lee Curtis will play Dorothy Scarpetta, Kay’s older sister.
Bobby Cannavale, of Third Watch and Nurse Jackie fame, and Australia’s Simon Baker, of The Mentalist and The Devil Wears Prada fame, round out the cast list.
What is the meaning of scarpetta?
Scarpetta is an Italian word that literally translates to “little shoe.”
But scarpetta (or specifically the phrase ‘fare la scarpetta’) also refers to the Italian practice of using a piece of bread to mop up the sauce left on a plate after a meal.
