Spice Girls fans, set your clocks for 11 pm AEST on 10 September 2026; something spicy this way comes.
The official Spice Girls Instagram account and website posted a cryptic message, asking followers to tune in at “10.09.2026 | 2pm BST”.
Accompanying the message was a video of the “Wannabe” stairs with a newspaper on the steps. Just nine weeks ago was the 30th anniversary of the ‘Wannabe’ music video. On the newspaper was an advertisement looking for a “Spice Girls fan” with the “ability to sing & dance”.
It adds that there is “no sheet music required” but “you will need a vinyl or CD player,” which has this author thinking that a documentary might be in the works.
However, at the time of writing, most of the comments are hoping for a reunion tour of some kind or a compilation album of all their remastered hits.
If it is a documentary, there is plenty of precedent (and no, I’m not talking about the cinematic masterpiece that is the feature film Spice World).
In 2007, the BBC released an official feature-length documentary, Spice Girls: Giving You Everything, that featured rare archival footage and interviews with the five members of the band and documented their rise to global fame as well as Geri Halliwell’s departure. In 2021, Channel 4 released a three-part documentary series, Spice Girls: How Girl Power Changed Britain. And there have been a few unofficial ones, like Raw Spice in 2001.
In fact, in 2024, it was rumoured that a new documentary was in the works. However, Melanie Janine Brown, aka Scary Spice, aka Mel B, confirmed that it wasn’t going ahead.
“I can tell you it’s not happening,” she told Hello! “But it has to be done in the right way, and it has to be honest – and not everybody wants to be honest.”
However, with 2026 marking 30 years since the band’s inception…maybe something has changed since that interview.
