The Traitors is coming back to Australian screens with a new host at its helm: Gretel Killeen.
Here’s everything we know about the next season…
Who is the host of The Traitors, Gretel Killeen?
Gretel Killeen is a comedian, media personality, and author. But she is probably best known as the host of Big Brother Australia from 2001 to 2007 – a role she almost didn’t audition for.
“When I was asked if I wanted to audition for it, I remember thinking: I’m 38, I’ve got dark hair, and I’m a woman – there’s no way in the world they’re going to want me,” she told Stella magazine. “I thought 38 was too old and you had to have blonde hair to be a host. Those were the parameters in those days.”
When news broke that Big Brother was coming back Down Under, some speculated that Gretel would return to host it; however, that gig went to Mel Tracina.
Turns out, Gretel was already in discussions to host another show at the 10 Network: The Traitors Australia! Now looking back at her age when hosting Big Brother, her perspective on age has changed. “I didn’t think I was young at the time [at 38] but in retrospect, I was!” she said to Stella.
“So this is karma. I’m a lot older… by older, I mean a lot of experiences have occurred.”
You may also recognise Gretel from the 2025 season of The Amazing Race: Celebrity Edition, where she is competing alongside her daughter, celebrated filmmaker Epiphany.
Other shows she has been a part of were The Masked Singer Australia, Nine Network’s Coast to Coast, Midday with Ray Martin, How Not to Behave on ABC, and is a regular guest on many talk and panel shows across all the Aussie networks. She’s also been a host for TV WEEK Logie Awards, where she was lowered on stage in an angel costume.
Gretel Killeen is also an accomplished writer, with over twenty books to her name. Her works include children’s books (e.g. My Sister series, My Life Is a Toilet), memoirs and humorous works.
She has performed stand-up comedy, including shows for Australian troops in regions such as Afghanistan, Iraq, the Solomon Islands, East Timor, and Egypt. Furthermore, she has worked with UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador. And, she directed a documentary on AIDS orphans in Zambia..
Gretel was married to Mark Morgan; they have two children together.
What is The Traitors Australia?
The Traitors Australia is a reality game show based on the Dutch format De Verraders. Contestants are isolated in a secret mansion, competing for a cash prize made up of silver bars, while secretly some are assigned the role of “Traitors”, whose goal is to eliminate other contestants, called “Faithfuls,” without being discovered.
Faithfuls must identify and vote out the Traitors during banishment ceremonies, while both groups participate in challenges to build the prize pool.
Players can sometimes win protection, shielding them from elimination during night phases.
If all Traitors are banished, the Faithfuls share the prize, but if any Traitors survive until the end, they win.
The first two seasons were hosted by Rodger Corser. In October 2023, Network 10 said that it had not been renewed, but could return. And now it has!
