It’s a tradition to send out a card at Christmas time. It’s one various royal families have long upheld. Yes, from King Charles of the British royal family to King Felipe VI of Spain, multiple royals send out Christmas cards each year.
But what makes their cards so special is that they always feature delightful images of the royals who sent them.
Did you know that you can receive a Christmas card from the British Royal Family? No matter where you are in the world, if you send a Christmas Card to the royal mailroom, you will receive a card from them in return! However, they might not get into your mailbox until February or March.

In honour of the festive season, we’ve rounded up the best royal Christmas cards from over the years.

2025 – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
The days before Christmas, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared their family Christmas card, featuring their two children Archie and Lilibet.
“Happy Holidays! From our family to yours,” Meghan shared on Instagram.
According to People, the photo was captured in early December at their Montecito home in California, where they relocated after departing the royal family in 2020.

2025 – Princess Catherine and Prince William
Days before Christmas Day, the Prince and Princess of Wales released their Christmas Card, featuring their three kids: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
“Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas,” the family wrote.

2025 – Royal Family Archives
The Royal Collection Trust searched it’s archives in the lead up to Christmas 2025, to unearth three significant cards from the royals.
Firstly, was an image from 1938 featuring George VI with his family including wife Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, and his two daughters Margaret and Elizabeth, who signed the card using her childhood nickname Lilibet.
The following photo was taken 10 years later featuring a then Prince Charles with his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Lastly, was Crown Prince Olav, who would become King Olav VI, in 1917. He was the grandson of King Edward VI and Queen Alexandra. The card was warmly addressed to Queen Mary, and read, “I wish you a merry Xmas and a happy New Year.”

2025 – Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence
Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence’s beautiful Christmas card was unveiled early by Govenor of Queensland, Dr Jeanette Young’s Instagram.
“With best wishes for a happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year,” the card read. But it was the way the Princess Royal signed off the card with a simple, “From Anne and Tim.”

2025 – The Monaco Royal Family
The Monaco Royal family were one of the first royals to share their 2025 Christmas Card with the world. In the image, the family are posing next to a roaring fire in a fireplace adorned with a lush evergreen garland with royal blue elements. Princess Charlene is sitting next to her dog and daughter, Princess Gabriella. While Albert II stands behind them with his arm around his son, the twin brother of Gabriella, Prince Jacques.

2024 – Prince William and Princess Catherine
The Wales family released their 2024 Christmas Card just days before the holiday, on December 20.
It simply read, “Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year.” But the photo choice was rather poignant; it’s a still of the family from the video statement Princess Catherine released in September 2024, to share that she had completed chemotherapy.

2024 – Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to showcase six photos on their 2024 Christmas card. Among the images were snaps taken during their 2024 visits to Nigeria and Colombia. But most excitingly, one of the six photos was a previously unseen photo of Harry and Meghan with their rarely seen kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
In the new photo, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, can be seen from behind running towards their mum and dad, both with fiery red hair. So cute!

2024 – Princess Anne
Princess Anne chose an image of herself and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurenc,e from Garter Day for her 2024 Christmas Card. The message read, “With best wishes for a happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year.”

2024 – King Charles and Queen Camilla
For their 2024 Christmas card, King Charles and Queen Camilla chose a photo of themselves in the Gardens of Buckingham Palace, taken by Millie Pilkington.

2023 – King Charles and Queen Camilla
As Charles’ second Christmas as King, he and Camilla opted for a Christmas card featuring an image from their coronation, which took place in May 2023. “Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year,” it read.

2023 – Prince William and Princess Catherine
Prince William and Princess Catherine’s 2023 Christmas Card featured a black and white photograph of the pair with their children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

2023 – Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose a photo that was taken during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Invictus Games for their Christmas card.

2023 – Prince Albert and Princess Charlene
The Monegasque royals — Prince Albert, Princess Charlene and their twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques — used an incredibly glamorous photo for their 2023 Christmas card.

2023 – King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia
The Spanish royal family used a photo from Princess Leonor’s 18th birthday for their 2023 Christmas card. King Felipe VI wore a classic suit and a royal blue tie, while Queen Letizia looked stunning in a matching royal blue dress. Princess Leonor wore a fashionable white suit and Infanta Sofia wore a floral blue and white frock.

Charles and Camilla’s 2022 Christmas card was adorned with an image of the royal couple taken at the Braemar Games in September 2022.
