Australian’s are well aware that the weather could either mean a beautiful Christmas Day at the beach, or an indoors festive day spent watching holiday movies.

So, thongs and tongs? Or popcorn and movies?

While it is tempting to watch the weather forecast daily – or hourly if you’re excited – it isn’t necessarily accurate.

The limit for an accurate forecast is two weeks, according to meteorologists. But even then, the reading can change as December 25, 2025, nears. The Bureau of Meteorology notes that even five days out, the temperature forecast is within two degrees Celsius of the actual temperature.

UK meteorologist, Aiden McGivern, told ABC: “It’s kind of like trying to predict the winner of the World Cup when we’re only still in the group stages.”

What is the weather forecast for Christmas Day 2025?

After a rough start to Summer with heatwaves and thunderstorms, many were hoping the weather would settle for Christmas and Boxing Day 2025. But the Bureau of Meteorology weather forecast for Christmas day seems a little chaotic for those around Australia.

Queensland, WA and the Northern Territory should prepare for a heat wave as BoM expects Perth to hit 41C with cloud, Brisbane 33C with showers and Darwin 30C also with showers.

Also expecting rainfall is Melbourne at 17C, Hobart at 15C, and Sydney at 24C.

It has predicted Adelaide and Canberra to hit the mid-20Cs with clouds.
