King Charles III’s charity foundation has sewn up something special this Christmas: Stockings made from Sandringham Estate curtains!
King Charles III founded the charity The King’s Foundation in 1990. Back then, he was, of course, the Prince of Wales, and so the charity was originally “The Prince’s Foundation”.
Its core mission is to build sustainable communities, care for heritage places and practise and promote a philosophy of harmony between “people, places, and the planet.”
One of the activities it focuses on is preserving craft skills, like sewing. Volunteers hand-stitched the Sandringham Estate Christmas stockings during a Sewing Bee. The King’s Foundation hosted the event at Dumfries House in Scotland.

Dumfries House is the foundation’s longstanding headquarters in Scotland. It is a restored 18th-century estate, which inspires its model of heritage-led community building.
The King’s Foundation also has a presence here in Australia. It launched Down Under in October 2024, during the King and Queen’s official visit to Australia. The first project the foundation earmarked was restoring Hillview Estate in New South Wales, which will be the base of the charity’s activities in Australia.
The King’s Foundation is auctioning off the Sandringham Estate Christmas stockings to raise money for its activities. The auction is live from December 1 until December 12 at midnight (GMT).
Unfortunately, there are only 25 Sandringham Estate stockings in existence. The craftspeople have numbered the stockings, and the Foundation will send the final one, number 25, to King Charles for his Christmas gift.

As mentioned, the stockings are made from recycled fabric of what were once the Sandringham Estate curtains. They are a regal gold fabric with pine-green accents and bear the seal of The King’s Foundation.
At the time of writing (2/12/2025), the bids had already reached £1,720 ($3470.23 AUD for the first Sandringham Estate stocking.
